My DD 18 is letting me join her and her 2 friends next Wednesday. We are all going to a concert at the Nokea Theater in Times Square. I am presently saving for our August trip, and they are all poor college students. We will be walking from Penn Station to Times Square. We need cheap food. Where can we go to get the most affordable dinner? Maybe a sandwich shop or pizza place? (We can always do Mc Donalds but would prefer real food) Whats in the area???

I'm not sure how adventurous of an eater you are but if while your their you need a place for lunch a favorite place for me to visit when I go into nyc is www.kalustyans.com They are primarily a ethnic grocery store that carries alot of spices and hard to find ingredients. But the jackpot is a little tiny corner upstairs where you can get a mix of middle eastern/ indian foods like salads, falafel and samosas. Its not a restaurant but more of a hidden take out nook with a small menu but probably some of the best falafel I've had in NY. Even if you don't go for the food upstairs if your big on international food and love to shop for spices this place is a foodies dream.

I'd also keep an eye out for groupon.com they get good deals for dinner in the city.

I hope you have a fun trip.

There is Famigilia's pizza on 50/B'way. There is also a Sbarro in the same general area ---- there are actually 2. Stick to the one that's actually on B'way (around 49/50?).

Look in the west 40's and 50's
John's Pizzeria is fairly affordable, split a pizza and salad
Used to be a church, builiding is kind of cool inside
Many offer prix fixe dinners in the theater district
There was a good Mexican on 9th, Blockheads might be the name

We were in NYC last week & ate at John's. It was great pizza and interesting building. I was with two 16 y/o girls. The three of us shared a small pizza and drank water. The small pizza was 6 big slices. Our bill with tip was $21.00.

I was looking at menupages.com and saw "99 cent pizza" and "2 bros pizza" in the Times Square Area. Now that's cheap Anyone ever try these places??
They say these places are in a sketchy area- would it still be ok to goto during the day?:confused3
Anyone?
