We are heading to Boston to see Paul McCartney at Fenway. Despite my username, I have actually never been to Boston. ;)

I need advice on what part of town to stay in, or specific hotel recommendations, so that returning back to the hotel after a concert will be as easy as possible.

Thanks! :)

Well, depending on what time the concert gets out, getting to your hotel should be easy and cheap enough. The "T" goes just about everywhere, and I believe runs until about 1 am. (It's been a couple years, things could have changed) Just do a websearch on hotels near Fenway. I'm sure there's plenty. Good luck! :)

Are you taking your car? It will cost you an arm and a leg to park but the T after a concert is not a quick way to get back to your hotel. I went to see Neil Diamond at Fenway last year and it took me over 2 hrs to get home and I live about 17 minutes away by car.

There are a couple of hotels in the immediate area...they are pricey but you can walk to them.

Longwood area would be easy..
Also Holiday Inn and Courtyard Marriott in Brookline

There are couple hotels right in the Fenway area but those will be most pricey.

Actually, we will not have a car. We are from Texas and will fly into New York (had to do that to make the airline rewards work).

I am thinking the Westin Copley. According to their info it is 1 mile-ish from Fenway. Any thoughts?

Thanks for the help :)

Westin Copley is a great hotel connected to the Copely mall and the Prudential mall (which has the duck tours if you have time). It's also near the Hancock tower too (where I used to work). It's convenient in that it's easy to get to/from Fenway via the green line but I don't think you'd want to walk it.

There is the Howard Johnson which is right next to Fenway and probably the only 'close' hotel near Fenway but I cannot vouch for the quality of the hotel.

Pretty much all of Boston is either walking distance or near the T to make it doable.

We went to a Sox game at Fenway in April and parked our car in the garage at the Pru - it's an easy walk and there's likely to be many others walking in the same direction after the concert. There's lots to do in that area and in the mall - lots of shops and restaurants. I think the Westin would be a great choice.

Off the top of my head, I would suggest the Best Western Boston (Inn at Longwood). I did a quick check (just to give you an idea) and if you stayed there 8/5 to 8/7 a regular room would be about $185 a night (not including taxes, queen bed, 2 adult guests - discounts available for AAA / advance purchase / etc.). I have walked to Fenway from that area almost every time I go to a game and it takes about 10-20min (depending on how big of a rush I am in / how fast I'm walking). I have never stayed at this BW. It is right in the area of several Boston hospitals. My guess would be that it's an average hotel room for the night, nothing spectacular. The two closest "T" (Boston transit) lines are about a 10-15min walk away, easy access to other points of interest in / around Boston.

I've never stayed at the Westin Copley.... depending on how you feel about walking, I've also walked from Fenway to that area, and it takes about 30 min for me (not in any sort of rush).

Personally, I would suggest finding a hotel to stay at that you can walk from / back to as the trains will most likely be packed going to / coming back from the show (unless you want to hang out by Fenway before / after as there are plenty of places to grab a few drinks / a bite to eat and let the crowds pass you by).

There is also a Sheraton that I would say is about a 20min walk from Fenway. I stayed there a few years ago, it was really nice.

Another hotel suggestion for you is the Hotel Commonwealth. It is right in Kenmore Square, one block from Fenway Park. It's quite new, and very nice. Here's a link to their website. http://hotelcommonwealth-px.trvlclick.com/index.cfm

A couple of others that are nearby--the Lenox Hotel. boutique, very nice, about three blocks from Fenway: http://www.lenoxhotel.com/

The Buckminster Hotel in Kenmore Square (I have not been in here in years, so I'd check the reviews): http://www.bostonhotelbuckminster.com/

The Westin Copley is just fine too, and very walkable from Fenway (about 20 minutes through a safe area).

In that same immediate area, you have the option of staying at the Mandarin Oriental (brand new, pricey!): http://www.mandarinoriental.com/boston/

The Copley Plaza Hotel (historic, some of the rooms are kind of small): http://www.fairmont.com/CopleyPlaza/

There is also an older Sheraton and an older Hilton in the Copley area.

I am not sure what your price range is, so these suggestions may or may not be helpful, but it's a start for you, anyway.

Oh yeah, definitely not quick. lol. But riding the T after a big event is just part of the whole Boston experience. Good times. ;)

There's also a Marriott at Copley Place.

From Fenway Park, you can walk to the Marriott at Copley Place and to some of the other hotels mentioned here -- the Westin at Copley Place, the Copley Plaza, the Lenox, the Hilton near the Prudential Center and the Sheraton near the Prudential Center. These hotels are all near each other. You can take the T (subway) to them from Fenway. But after a Red Sox game, I've found that it's always easier to walk to hotels in this area rather than take the T. I assume it's the same after a concert.

I believe a previous poster said the Lenox is 3 blocks from Fenway. I think it's more than that. It's... I want to say on Boylston Street between Fairfield and Exeter, but it's been a while since I've been there.
