My 4 1/2 year old son loves playing board games and we'd like to get him a couple for christmas. He gets bored with the preschool games ... candyland, chutes and ladders, etc. and we've been playing a few we already had that are for an older age group. He really likes yahtzee and trouble. Does anyone have suggestions for some board games we would like too? He could probably even play some that are for the 8 yr. + age group. Thanks!

Don't forget card games. He would love Uno, "top me--AKA WAR, and basic "rummy", crazy eights, etc. Buy a deck of cards in his favorite character!

My DGS (6) loves his scene it games, BINGO, scrabble (we just double the number of tiles and help if he gets stuck), monopoly, Sorry, Life, and when he was younger: he had some Thomas games, and the ones you listed. Oh yeah--pop up pirate----doesn't require much thinking but he loves waiting to see who will make the pirate pop. And the POTC DVD Treasure Hunt game--the whole family loves.

We play board games nightly around here.

DS4 loves Sorry, Life, Bumparena, Cariboo, Cranium Command, Gobblet, Sequence, The Magic Kingdom Game and Memory.

He also loves card games, especially Uno Attack and Blink.

For good quality games, you can't go wrong with anything by http://www.haba.de...It's a german game company that makes very high quality kids games (among other things). My son (who is 4.5 also) loves them...And has played games that say 5+ with no problems--and could probably go older. The only problem is finding them--it's not the kind of thing you find at TRU. (I am lucky enough to have a local store that carries all of them...we go there regularly to browse.

Another cool game is called Kids of Catan. It's a village building game with little wooden houses...(There is a whole grown-up set of Catan games, so it's kind of indoctrinating them into that.) Oh, and Junior Labyrinth is a neat shifting maze searching for treasure game (also with a more advanced adult division.)

Okay, I'll stop now...I'm getting seriously geeked out.:lmao: :rolleyes1 But with kids that love games (and want to play the grown-up ones they their parents playing!) it's a challenge.

My DS 5 loves: Sorry, Monopoly Jr., Cosmic Catch, Apples to Apples Jr., Zingo, good ole cage bingo, UNO.
These came directly from him. Good luck!

Thank you to everyone for posting your suggestions. Connect 4 is one i've already been planning on. Time to finish up my Christmas shopping!
