Need bathing suit help!

Spent a nice afternoon at Walmart yesterday buying alot of the stuff talked about on this forum, including the infamous .87 ponchos!

Now I need some assistance from the professional shoppers out in cyberspace. My daughter, 14, is extremely modest and refuses to wear a two piece bathing suit. Any stores that sell one piece suits for teens? And don't suggest shorts and tees, she won't wear the "short shorts" that are in style either. I've bought capris in light materials for our trip. Limited Too used to be a godsend but she's definitely outgrown that store. Any suggestions? TIA

She should be able to find cute "tankinnies", a two piece that has a long tank top and bottoms. I love mine, and although I am not a teen I find it very comfortable, modest and yet fun.

Land's End sells great ones, but I know I have seen them in the J.C. Penney's catalog as well.

my sister just moved to the boston area, salem, I found that the shopping was great in that area. My sixteen year old dd recomended target or marshalls as stores in your area that we saw bathing suits at when we were up there. Also the suggestion about landsend is right on the mark for modest, sporty suits. You can also check with any sporting store that carries speedo brand suits like those worn by swim teams they are cut high in the arm and neck. Hope she enjoys the trip.

Go to Dick's sporting goods or Dicksportinggoods.com (I think they have them in MA), tons of sports suits, like Speedo and Nike, all one piece and really good for water slides because they stay on. Plus they usually come in really cool colors.

My DD14 is also very modest about wearing 2-piece suits. If you have a Kohl's near you, they have a great junior's section. DD also likes Boscov's for bathing suits. The sporting goods stores also have great one-piece suits but sometimes they are a little "thin" up top. Just make sure that she chooses one with a lined bodice.

We don't have any stores near us, so I've always bought bathing suits from Lands End for the family. Their suits may seem a bit more expensive at first glance but the quality is unbelievable, and much better than say the gap who seemed to "skimp" on the amount of fabric used in the tankini top bought from them. My dh is 7, so I don't know YET (!) what 14yr old girls are like, but if your dh doesn't find anything she likes, let her look at the LE website. They're also great at returns or exchanges. When we're going to the pool at a friend's house i make her wear the older suits because the surround of the pool is a bit rough and makes the front of her suit "furry". Better than her tummy getting scratched up though!
To Mom's of Boys: my boys used to like LE trunks until the fashion for looong shorts came in. The LE ones are now too short apparently!

I second the Lands End idea. There bathing suits are great. I have two tankinis that show no more skin than a one piece. They have great tugless bathing suits that really stay in place. The quality is excellent.

Sam's Club sells Speedos for about half the price that they are in the stores. They were women's sizes, but maybe your daughter could fit into them. They also had tankinis as well. Only drawback is that you can't try it on before you buy it.

At least five years ago I bought a Fakini (one-oiece that looks like a tankini) from Lands End. It was great! I was a modest teenager, but wanted to look up to date. I was able to do any water sport I wanted without any fear of showing anything. Land's End's suites are well worth the money, with good care they last for years! Maybe I'll wear mine again, if I can get off some baby weight!

I have to agree Lands end has great swimwear with good quality. A few other ideas may by The Gap, Old Navy, or Nordstroms (which has excelent quality and A+++ customer service). Currently my dd is into the limited too (and after stopping by the limited for her friend who is older and bigger...lets just say it not a store we will be buying our dd clothes in..it is sooo much diffrent than the limited too). Try Sears. I bought a suit there that has a top like a tank top, and long-ish shorts for the bottoms. Longer than the Land Ends ones. It is very comfortable.

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions. We went to many stores, including Sears and looked at the Lands End two piece ones. She wasn't thrilled with them because of the "cups" in the tops. Oh well...
I finally got desperate, so yesterday at Old Navy I told her to pick something out. She ended up picking out a bikini top and bottom with matching shorts and she'll just wear a t-shirt over the whole thing...not a bad idea since she's really fair and would burn.

I also vote for Land's End........quality is superior, returns are no problem and the selection is great! I would suggest bringing 2 suits for your trip

Lands End. They have lots of cute separates in all sizes. She can pick and choose tops and bottoms. I personally hate one pieces. I like the ease of separates, makes going to the bathroom easier. LOL

They are not cheap, but will LAST.

Sears carries some of them now, too.

Costco sells Speedos at very reasonable prices. They have girls and womens sizes.

I teach high school in a warm climate and yes--the clothing starts to shrink as the temperature begins to go up.

We usually spend at least 5/7 days at our neighborhood pool so you can imagine how many suits we go through. I see how some suits don't hold up when wet and/or stretch out/snag etc. I buy my suits at LLBean or Lands End. At first they are a bit more expensive but they are DEFINITELY worth it! Even when my 8 year old DD snags them, they still hold up and don't run like other suits. The fit is great.

I highly recommend the tankinis from either of these catalogs. At Lands End you can get the suits with shelf bras so that should help with the complaint of having cups in the bra. You can also pick the cut of the leg. I generally choose the high leg or medium leg--both are very modest. Now that I am 41 and a mom, I find myself torn between fuddy duddy old lady suits and the skimpy teeny bopper suits. The Lands End and LLBean suits have been a godsend. There is such a wide assortment of suits from sporty to sun bathing (while still being swimmable) you should be able to find something appropriate.

Glad to see there are at least a few modest little ladies out there...most I see look like little brittneys--- yet not with her body.... I wish more were like your daughter.... I recommend LLBean....they have great swim suits.....

I've been wanting to order a bathing suit from land's end...but it's so hard to get one that really fits and looks good....when I go to the store I try on dozens. Do the Land's End sizing charts and info really work out? And just how hard is it to return? Are you stuck paying shipping both ways?

Bathing suit shopping is a nightmare for me....I tryand do it every couple of years. LOL
