I was approached by a neighbor to watch 2 of her girls age 2 and 5 in the afternoons from 2 or 2:30 to 5 monday through friday. Into the school year it might not be everyday, because her schedule would change but then I would also have thier other daughter that is in 3rd grade. During the school year I would have the youngest from the same time and the other two from when they get off the bus 3:20 until 5. I would assume that I would give them a snack (but no meals)

She was thinking $50 for the week which I think is a little low since that is only $10 a day. Does anyone have any ideas. I don't want to charge her too much because I know they are struggling but I also don't want to cut myself short since I will be confined to the house and also be providing snacks for them. Opinions?????:confused3

I am paying $5 a day for after school care for one child for one hour (from 3pm to 4pm) so $25 per week. I think $50/week is too low for that many kids and that amount of time. I would think the rate should be $75-$100/week and extra for holidays/snow days/etc.

Where in PA do you live? I am in the Harrisburg area.

After school care for my one daughter in her school (in MA) is $10 a day from 2:20 until 5:30 and I have to provide her snack and drink (but they are licensed, provide structured activities, arts/crafts, help with homework and I can claim it on my taxes). It would be $16 a day for two children.

Full day daycare for my son (10 hours) is $45 a day. Again, I provide the meals/snacks.

If she provides the snacks/drinks $10 a day might not be too far off - I assume you are not licensed?

Hope that helps.

I am going to pay my neighbors $15 to watch my DD (6) on school days. They would have her for about 3 hours so that works out to $5 per hour. For non-school days (i.e. holidays & summers), I am paying $35 per day. This is for 9 hours so that averages to a little less than $5 per hour.

I agree that $50 per week seems a little low and more trouble than its worth for you. I would try to get closer to $5 per hour per kid or slightly less.

Thanks for all the advice. I am going to speak to my husband about it. The kids are great kids and it wouldn't be too bad I think. I might ask her for $60 and hee what happens. I want to talk to DH and see what he thinks first.

I actually am in Camp Hill so not too far off of I-83. Did I see you posting in the Boutiquers thread?

Good luck with the babysitting dilemma!

Yes, I post over there. It moves fast so I try to keep up when I can. I have a sewing business and that was one of my concerns with the babysitting. It will take time from my studio time but I could easily work at night too after bed (I do that now too sometimes) We definatly could use the extra $
