Going to Disney in May for 6 nights at Pop with free dining (I upgraded to DD). Would you stay off-site first night (after looking at Orlando hotel - I'm thinking it would probably be around $60-70) or book Pop at $176 (additional cost to upgrade to DD). We are 3 adults, so the way I am figuring it, Pop would be the most cost effective because I am getting 3 table services, 3 counter services and 3 snacks for $100 by adding an extra night. I have quite a few reservations and I am actually going to have to cancel some to not pay OOP on some the dinner arrangements. I am looking at this wrong? Does it really make sense to pay the extra $100 - I do think I would save more than $100 in meals.

What do you think?

I think it would make sense. There's the extra food, not having the inconvenience of having to move hotels, and the EMH you could get...go for it!

The $$$ you are figuring for food as well as the convenience of not having to switch locations make staying at Pop pretty much a no-brainer for me.

I would definitely stay at Pop rather than bother with an off-site hotel. If you are flying and not getting a rental car, it will be a major pain to get from the airport to your hotel and then from the hotel to Pop.

If you can add a day to your free dining promo, I would definitely do it, particularly if you were planning to pay OOP for any TS meals.

I had the same dilemma. We were arriving at 9:30pm and it would have been cheaper to stay offsite for one night then go to Pop. But we opted to stay at Pop because we want to start our day at the MK that first day ASAP. So by staying at Pop it gets us a little closer to the action. Plus the kids can sleep in a little longer.

We are not upgrading to the DD though. Only CS for us.

At Disney time is money.

At Pop you could have all your stuff stowed away.
Maybe work in a swim and then be ready to hit the parks bright and early.

If you are able to extend your POP reservation to add one night, I'd go with that certainly. If you have to check-in for one night, then check-out and switch to another room at POP for the remaining six days, I'd rethink it and probably stay off-site. We did this a couple of years ago at POFQ and it was annoying to unpack enough to sleep, get the luggage all out and switch to another room.
