We are currently staying at All Star Sports in Disney for 3 nights in order to go to Universal before moving to the Poly for our Disney stay. I just was offered a deal to stay at PBR for roughly an additional $330.00 (once you take into account the higher cost of the room plus the AP I would have to purchase). We were trying to keep costs down for this portion of the trip and our situation is certainly not a case where money is no object, but only $330 to upgrade to a much larger room, be right on site, front of the line, AND early admission to HP. Should I empty the piggy bank and go for it?

Never stayed at PBR but thought is was beautiful! Did you have the option to go RP? I think it's cheaper and maybe worth asking about. I honestly would stay on US property for their park and then transfer to Disney for that portion of the trip. It's worth the early entrance and the whole being right there aspect. I wasn't a huge fan of US until our tip last year. I think their hotel options are great and the food outstanding compared to Disney when it comes to choices.

When you are going makes a huge difference in crowds. If the crowds are going to be high, I would def. stay onsite at Universal while go to Universal. There are so many benefits to staying onsite.

go for it.....

since your kids are all under the age of 18, you won't have any additional adult charges for the room.

you will have a lot of space at pbh.

sure, you could save money and stay at rph, but if your kids are over 13, you'll miss the extra room space at pbh.

you will recieve unlimited usage for all rides and shows with the exception of parry hotter rides.

if you stay at disney and just do day trips, what would you do if you encountered long ride and show lines?
buy the express pass for all 5 in your family?

that is where you will come out ahead.
think of the cost per day for the epp and the down time of getting up early to travel from the motherland to the darkside, and the pool time you could take in if you stayed on site at pbh.....

i have done it both ways years ago.
traveled from disney to universal....
with 3 boys.......

i found it easier on me to stay at one resort then move to the other to enjoy what both parks and resorts had to offer my family.

it became very relaxing not having to do the extra travel back and forth.

I originally called about RPR but PBR was $10 cheaper a night. With a family of 5 (3 teens all bigger than me) the extra room at PBR will be welcome. Do I have to pay the $25.00 for a rollaway when we will have an aerobed with us?

No charge if you have your areobed :thumbsup2

The only problem with staying onsite is you are going to be spoiled with express pass and not waiting, then moving to Disney and have to wait.:goodvibes

If you can swing it...DO IT!!! Onsite is incredible! Once you stay onsite you will never want to stay offsite! It is great!

Please post back what you decide to do. I too would love to stay at PBR, but my wallet says otherwise. I think the advice you got is good - if you are planning to go during a busy season, the FOTL access for 5 seems golden. You cant take it with you (i.e. money) so why not make memories that last a lifetime?

I booked PBR today! Thank you for all of your input. In the end the FOTL, early entry to HP, and not having to get in our car for 3 days after driving from NJ to FL were worth the extra $350 to stay on site (and in a room where we are not tripping over each other). I just hope I find a job as soon as we return from vacation!

I hate to tell you this, Lisa3, but as has been said previously, you will be so incredibly spoiled by FOTL that you will be doubly frustrated standing in line at Disney. You have absolutely made the right choice. I have said it before and I'll say it again, staying onsite at Universal is the best money I have ever spent. I could not stay anywhere else. You are going to love it.

lisa is coming back to the darkside after that 3 night stay.

she said she sprung for the AP..............how can she not return???

what will be so sweet for the family lisa, no trying to get kids up early in the morning. then get dressed, have breakfast, hop in the car and drive from sports to UO.

that alone is worth it.
i've done that before and my bratty boys drove me crazy.......
(what i considered early, they considered was the middle of their sleep)

hopefully you booked with the ap rate to get a better discount on the room.
watch the rates for pbh and if the ap decreases, call and have your rate be modified to reflect the cheaper one for you.

also, show your ap at all food venders and restaraunts for a 10% discount.
same goes for merch in the parks.
10% discount.

if you go over to the island dining room at rph, show your ap when you order and you will get the 10% discount there also.

be sure to return to this thread and tell us about the fun you all had at the darkside.
