Has anyone rented dvc points for a stay, and if so did you rent from an individual, or go through a rental company?

I have rented my DVC points. Many people rent points. It is valid and functional.

Remember, you aren't actually renting points. You are renting the reservation. The points belong to the DVC owner, as does the reservation that they make in your name.

Demand for rentals is higher than points available to rent. Demand for certain room types is higher than available inventory. For best results, have realistic expectations and be planning 11+ months in advance. Know that DVC can high season is September through marathon, and runDisney weekends are also high demand. Your booking may need to be paid up front. It is generally not changeable or refundable. You won't get any other Disney discounts or free dining. You won't get daily housekeeping. Room configurations will usually include sofabeds, particularly in studio villas.

If there is any issue, Disney is not a part of the transaction and will not be a part of making it right.

David's DVC advertises here and seem to have a good reputation. I rented at another web site which I'm not allowed to name (they don't advertise). Alway remember the money spent is not refundable. But the company I rented from offers cancellation insurance where the refund goes lower the closer you get to check in to the point where there is no refund at all. Read the fine print.

I have rented from David's and it went very well. The earlier you get your request in the better.

The companies charge a higher rate- about $1-$3 more per point than individuals and depending on stay and location could be $300-$1000 difference. There is a forum for individual renting on DIS too. Most people are honest and have references. If you do your research you'd be fine that way too.

In all cases, the renting party is also worried that they've tied their points up for you and that you might then cancel, hence the strict cancellation language.

However you choose, rest easy and enjoy your trip !

I too rented twice so far from Davids. Both times amazing..Bargain pricing! I personally would be afraid to rent from an individual to much risk for me.

I have rented from David's also. I got exactly what I wanted but did put in my request at 11 months out. I would not hesitate to rent from David's again and plan to do so next year. I also would much prefer to use a company because there is more accountability.

Renting points is usually WAY cheaper than paying Disney's price for a villa or than staying at the resort in a regular hotel room. As mentioned, no housekeeping. Also, the hotel rooms and villas are not the same. Furnishing, configuration, bedding, etc. does vary. A room at the BCV is not the same as a room at the Beach Club, BLT is not the same as the Contemporary, etc. Looking at photos online will give you an idea of what to expect.

Even though I will be booked at a Disney resort in February, (still not sure which one it will be though:crazy2:) at about 2.5 months out, I am going to inquire with Davids and other rental companies about the possibility of a studio at Saratoga Springs or Old Key West. It may or may not be possible.

So, funny thing, as I am typing this I ask my 11-year-old daughter about what she thought about Saratoga Springs. She is like, does it have sand at the bottom of the pool.:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

I've rented from David's several times and highly recommend it. I like getting a deluxe for the price of a moderate! I also like that David's lets you pay with PayPal and has the option for no interest over 6 months. We're normally staying for at least a week and that can get pricey! It's nice to be able to split up the payments instead of having to put it all out at one time. I tend to plan our trips way in advance so they've always been able to find something for me. I like that you can pick up to 4 options for them to look for availability. The only downside is if you have your heart set on a particular resort and a particular category(ie Beach Club studio only). If you're pretty flexible, it's a great money saving option.

I have rented from a lay not from this board and it all went well. I bet I sent her at least 50 emails.I posted what I was looking for and she contacted me. I think she said she owns 6 or so dvc contracts and they pay for them selves. She had a bw studio booked for Dec ad soon as it came out. Then I got it like 3 months later. We did a split stay for 2 weeks between there and AK. She just used some of her other points to book AK. So she had more days booked at BW then I wanted do she just had reservations split her one stay booked into two stays and rented the other days out. I'd use her again next Christmas but were doing a bb for free dining.
