Need advice: Should I change dates?

Aaaahhh! I just read that Indy will be closed in September when we were planning on going. With HM(one of my favorite), Indy(potential favorite I have not been on before), and the Aladin show (I am a musical junkie) being closed I am tempted to change my vacation dates.

My family has never been to DL before so I really wanted them to experience it as the original DL and not Halloween (although I love Halloween!!) Now I am tempted to change our dates from Sept 8 to October hoping the rides will be open by then.

We have a very flexible schedule although we want to go to use the HoJo Ent rate. When would you go during this time of year? Please share your abundant knowledge and opinions! worship:

I think that there is always something down at DL and there is no way around it. Our family of 4 only has one member that likes Indy. The rest of us feel like we are going to get whiplash from it.

well i read a email some one got wher eit says aug 31'st is when indy will open but then just got off the calnder site and it said indy would be closed till sep 30th..im really hoping it opens on aug 31st like supose to.

Well, the Haunted Mansion Holiday should be up and running in October and one rumor says Indy may reopen August 31. I'm not sure about Aladdin running in October, but it is the best Disney park stage show I've ever seen.

IMHO, i have to echo honeymom. There is always something closed down, no matter how hard you try to pick the perfect time.... Just decide what ambience is most important to you (regular, halloween, holiday, spring)and what works out best for you timewise and moneywise.

We will be bummed that Indy is closed down when we go, but the kids always can find a new favorite. There is so much to see and do and you might discover that you love something that you didn't think you would care for. Have fun!

You know, I think I'd hold off on redoing your dates. Everything still seems very much up in the air; I'm wondering if they are just saying that it's down for the forseeable future, until they can figure out how long they will need for the work to be done. Micechat locals reported that they were there yesterday and it was back up for most of the day, although running at only half capacity.

Wait till there's more info before panicking.

I wouldn't change it. It was a bummer that IASW was closed last week for us, it's one of my favorites. But there is still sooooooo much to do there, that we still have a wonderful time.

Something is always closed. We don't build our trips around what might be closed, we just go and enjoy. But, we are close enough that we can go pretty regularly (if the budget allows) so it's not as big a deal to us. Our family of 4 LOVES Indy, it's one of our faves. DBF and I tend to get motion sickness but not on Indy. I'll miss it while it's gone....but it will be back.

I am considering the same thing as you as soon as I read about Indy but I don't think i'll end up changing as it would be a hassle for me. I would wait a bit longer to see what comes of the Indy rehab first maybe it won't be closed the entire time.

I agree in someways. Yes, as others have said, there is always something closed, no way to plan around that. You also want your family to be able to see and experience the original Disneyland. If that is really what you want, then its really up to you guys if you want to change it. WHy not take a family vote and weigh the pros and cons of changing the date?

If you did change the dates to October, I can tell you that you will love it and not be disappointed. We are going in October, and did last year as well, and we loved it. And while I do love the HM, and not so crazy about HMH, we still are going.

If you were to change your dates, when would your family be able to make another trip out this way?? If it is a long time off, I would keep the current dates, if you are coming back in say a year or so, I would more than likely change my dates, but that is JMHO.

Since lunch today, I have read. . .

1. That Indy is currently closed and will stay closed until 8/31. . .
2. That Indy is currenntly closed and will stay closed until 9/30. . .
3. That Indy is open but running at half capacity. . .
4. That Indy is currently closed and will stay closed until 1/2/09. . .
5. That the Disneyland website is in error and they are going to fix it. . .

I would wait until some of the "authorities" at rival sites chimed in before I changed any plans. . .

Thanks for all the advice.

My DH suggested that I contact HOJO and make some reservations for October. Then as the time gets closer I can decide which time we want to go. I guess I will start reading more about Halloween at DL so I can be prepared for that too.


Maybe if I can talk my DH into buying AP's we can go back and see it all another time.
