My husband and I just bought DVC and our home resort is VWL, we were lucky enough to get 2010 points, I guess as a bonus from Disney. We bought in at 100 points and we are giving our daughter the 2010 points for her honeymoon in November. There were only rooms at OKW and SSR and she said to book them at OKW. Now she has done a little research and has decided that since OKW does not have a food court she may what to change her mind. SOOOO my question is this---Which resort should she choose? I have stayed at SSR and loved it, but never at OKW. I only have a short time to change the ressie as I know the rooms are booking up fast.

Thanks,
Dana

I think both resorts are very nice, and since she's the one travelling, if she would prefer OKW (and it's still available) then go for it.

My DD is getting married in October and honeymoon will be at OKW. Very nice place for a honeymoon, IMHO. A tropical, Floridian feel to it, music to match, many pools, Olivia's and more. Good luck!

SSR is close to Downtown Disney which has food options, but they can take the boat or bus to DTD from OKW too, or even walk. For a real food court you need to go to the Moderate or Value resorts which aren't as spacious as SSR or OKW. The other DVC resorts will have a quick style restaurant and sit down restaurant like SSR and OKW.

JMHO but I prefer SSR to OKW if you are booking a studio. The SSR studios have a queen bed and a couch. The OKW studios have 2 queens but no couch. For a couple I think the SSR studios feel more like a small apartment. OKW really has no food court and SSR has Artist's Palette. There are also lots of Spa options including a Couples relaxation package at SSR. Wandering the beautifully landscaped paths around SSR is romantic, and when the happy couple is ready for fun they can take a path to DTD.
I adore the OKW 1 bedrooms but much prefer the SSR studios. Hope the honeymooners have a grand time! :thumbsup2

Thanks y'all she has decided OKW will be fine . I told her if they really want food court type food then they could always get it at the parks. She did say it was mainly breakfast they were going to eat at the food court, so not a big deal. She has a room booked at CSR for her honeymoon, but is going to cancel it tonight since we were able to get OKW.

We loved SSR and really battled between buying in at SSR or VWL, but DH really likes WL, so it won out. When we add on I plan on it being at SSR though since the contract runs longer. We had a great room this past March at SSR on the ground floor next to a bus stop, with the pool right outside our room. We were not close to DTD though, we were on the back of the property, I think it was the Grandstand section. Artist's Palette was OK, not my favorite, but decent.

Overall we prefer OKW to SSR but for the situation at hand and without a car, I would definitely go with SSR. Once secured, you could always WL an even better preference, maybe BWV.

They will be driving down so they should be fine. DH always drives while we are there as I am not fond of driving around Orlando :scared1:. He won't ride the buses :confused3. DS and I took the bus, from SSR to MK, and I swear we were on the bus longer than we were in the park :rotfl:.

I always rented a car when staying at OKW and have driven over to either POFQ's food court.

racefan -- Looking at your pics in your signature, just have to ask....why is your 12 year old getting married?! :rotfl:

Hope they have a great honeymoon at OKW and welcome to the club!

:rotfl: Bless her heart she gets that all the time and she hates it. I told her that one day she will appreciate looking younger than her real age; she is actually 23.

Thanks so much, I am so happy to be a part of the club :cloud9::goodvibes.

This is a honeymoon right? Between the two resorts, SSR and OKW, I can think of only one place for a honeymoon couple, SSR and request Congress Park area, higher floor, overlooking lake. Its unbeatable for view and short walk to DD.

If you just bought your contract direct through Disney, perhaps you could contact your sales rep. I have heard of them being able to take a room from a cash reservation inventory and use it for points for a customers first booking on a new contract.

Not sure if they could do it, but is worth asking. I'm sure throwing in the story about your daughter's honeymoon wouldn't hurt either.

Warning, completely biased answer! Our first stay at DVC was a split stay between VWL and OKW. As soon as we got home, we bought OKW and sold our VWL points. If DH had his way, EVERY WDW stay would be at OKW. So chose between OKW and anywhere else? My choice would be...surprised? OKW!

I tried that :guilty:. My guide said she couldn't convert the CSR reservation to a DVC one :sad2:. Not sure if it was because the cash reservation was in my daughter's name or not, but I just dropped it when she said it wasn't an option.

Yeah it is her honeymoon. I really like SSR too, but her and her fiance looked at the websites for both resorts and they really like OKW. I am just so happy to be a DVC owner now that I would do a split stay between all the resorts, one night at each........lol.

My brother owns at OKW and he loves it there too. My DH likes the couch in the VWL and SSR studios is the only reason we haven't stayed there already.

I would go with SSR due to the food options. Good luck..

When we stayed at SSR, I was a little confused about the food court at first, but then once we got it down it was OK.

No bonus, I'd bet you are in your 2010 UY still.

The poster who suggest contacting your guide is not talking about converting your daughter's CSR reservation to DVC.
It may be too complicated for you to understand at this point, but to make it simple, sometimes guides are able to pull inventory at DVC resorts that is not available for point usage but cash reservation only, on your first reservation as a one-time "make the magic happen". You would still use your points, not your daughter pay with whatever she has already paid for ther CSR reservation. It doesn't usually happen, should not be taken as a given. But apparently is mentioned quite frequently on these boards, so people think it can happen on all first time buyins.

For what it is worth, for a studio for 2, yes to SSR, no to OKW, especially on your honeymoon. They will clearly only use one bed, the other bed would just be in the way.

In addition, you thought Artists Palette wasn't great, which it isn't. But far superior to what OKW offers, and is indoor with indoor seating. OKW just offers a take-out window!
