Need advice on visiting Charlestown, SC

Planning on visiting Charlestown, SC at the end of October for a long weekend. The cheapest car rental I can find is around 450.00. To save on hotels costs, we are staying at a hotel Mountain Pleasant near the bridge.

Is it possible to do this trip using Ubers for a reasonable cost? The farthest we would want to travel would be the Isle of Palms Beach and the airport.

Are there any must see or dos in the area? We want to do Fort Sumter and Patriots Points. We also enjoy touring plantation homes.

Did you check off-airport car rentals? I'm saving over $200 to get a car 2 miles from the airport when I travel next month. Worth the cost of a cab/uber!

Just so you know, late October is high season in Charleston; expect long waits and difficult reservations at restaurants.

I regularly attend a conference there that time of year, and my per diem doesn't stretch to high season Charleston hotel prices, so I also usually stay in Mt. Pleasant. From that hotel area, the closest beach is Sullivan's Island, which is about 15-20 minutes away in light traffic; Isle of Palms is further up the coastline, about a 40 minute drive each way.

Essentially, I'd say that if you were staying in Charleston proper and only wanted to go to the beach once, Ubers would be reasonable for the distances involved. Staying in Mt. Pleasant, though, I really wouldn't recommend relying on Uber/cabs for touring if you're trying to keep the trip affordable. (The airport is rather a long haul from the south end of Mt. Pleasant as well. Remember that offsite offices often have much shorter operating hours than at the airport as well, and are sometimes closed on Sundays, so take that into account when planning.)
