We had roof damage in last Monday's storms and my son's ceiling was drooping more each day. When the section (large enough to expose 10 joists) of ceiling board fell yesterday, it landed on the pingpong table and the loose insulation exploded all over the room. It landed on bookcases filled with kids' games and puzzles. Can these be safely cleaned or should they be thrown away? How about Barbies? What about toys on the other side of the room that don't have any visible chunks but surely had fine dust land on them during the initial incident? Clothes in the dresser can be washed and dried and worn, correct?

I am have a terrible time finding definitive information on the internet. Google has failed me.

Look in the yellow pages for insulation contractors. Call a few and ask them.

I found alot of sites like this one:

http://www.fema.gov/diz01/d1380n14.shtm

which are designed for cleanups after a flood or major storm. Most say to wear rubber gloves, long sleeves and pants and socks and boots and a respirator mask. But I would call an expert in this case and perhaps even pay them to clean it up for you.
