We're going to WDW in December, and have planned character meals twice a day. (I know... please don't give me a hard time. It's one of our favorite things to do, and it gives us a nice break from our commando tactics... haha)

For Counter Service... I like Tusker House in Animal Kingdom, and I love the hot dog stand at MGM... yum!

I wanted to ask what Counter Service Restaurants everyone would recommend in Magic Kingdom and Epcot?

And which ones to avoid?

Thanks!
Wendy

Jeez, Two Character Meals, I Would Get Rid One Of Them (Just Kidding) LOL

But really, I would try the Columbia Harbor House in MK if I were you. Great place to eat in and great food. You have to eat up stairs, it is great to get out of the hugh mass of crowds. Also the food is the normal counter-service se;ections, but they are very good.

In Epcot I did'nt even have to think for more then 5 seconds to come up with one. Defiently go to the food court in The Land. They have fantastic baked potatoes.

Where is the Hot Dog Satnd at MGM? To be honset..I hate Hot Dogs..but I crave them when I am pregnant!! Please let me know so that I can keep it in mind for future reference! (I want 7 kids..I am sure to be pregnant one of these times at the "world"!)

Thanks Mike!

onecoolmama - The hot dog stand on Sunset Blvd on the same side of the street at RnR. I think it's called Sunset Ranch Market. They have the BEST hot dogs in WDW.

Good Luck with the kids :)

The Land is nice for a huge variety, but if you want something special try the counter service at Norway. Wonderful fresh sancwiches, delicious lefse, and rice cream!!! YUM!!! It's a must on our list each time.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the stand on Sunset no longer serves hot dogs. They switched over to burgers/chicken strips a while back. I used to love their hot dogs too!

Sorry. :(

What about Casey's Corner at the MK? I LOVE to eat there. But you may have to sit outside.

Cosmic Ray's at the MK is lots of fun. They have a pretty good menu too. But you need to make sure you sit in the "lounge" area with Sonny Eclipse!

Favorite counter service -

MK
Cosmic Ray's absolutely. They have the best veggie burgers on property and a fantastic toppings bar. They also have regular burgers, chicken, sandwiches, soup, and more.

EPCOT
The food court at the Land is our favorite, by far. Huge selection. Something for everyone. We used to love Pasta Piazza but they went and closed it for some reason.

Over in World Showcase, we like the counter service in China and in Japan. Japan is particularly nice aesthetically, gets you away from the hustle and bustle.

Steve

I agree that Cosmic Ray's in MK is good. The chicken is yummy!

In Epcot we also like the food court at The Land. Whatever you do, avoid the Electric Umbrella at Epcot. We ate there the first night and the food is really not that good. Just burgers, hot dogs and chicken strips. Our kids didn't even want to eat their hot dogs which tells you something!

One of the other counter options we always try is the fish n chips in England in Epcot -- Nice and crispy, with malt vinegar! Also great with a nice beer!

We only ate at Counter Service at the MK- we tried Cosmic Rays, Pecos Bills and Columbia Harbour House- we liked them all! Cosmic Rays and pecos Bills both had very nice topping bars for your burgers and dogs- my 5 year old got a hot dog at Cosmic Rays and it was huge and tasted good too! Columbia Harbour was nice asthetically- kind of away from the crowds and had fish, chicken strips, chowder in a bread bowl, salads- it was really nice! I would go back to any of these restaurants.

We ate at the Land & the Chinese fast food at Epcot. Both were okay. If I go back to the Land I will get something different- I had a BBQ chicken sandwich and it was very dry and blah..my kid's corn dogs were tiny ( the frozen kind you get at Costco are bigger!)...but my parents and MIL had sandwiches and wraps and they looked really good. The Chinese place was your typical sweet and sour chicken and rice- nothing fancy but it tasted fine. It was HHHHOOOOTTTTTTTTT in there though- we ate there for dinner and it's sorta outside- there are walls around you, but there are cut-outs in the walls...no fans to circulate the air and it was stifling hot. For that reason I would not return. I plan on trying both Japan and Norway for counter service this time. I've heard great things about both. :)

At MK we like Peso Bills and Cosmic Ray's. We haven't found any at Epcot. We have never tried anything in the world part because DD was young and not adventurous with her food, this year we plan on trying more there.

Michelemouse, are you sure they don't sell foot long hot dogs on Sunset Blvd? I know Rosie's All American Cafe doesn't have them anymore, but the little building in front of Rosie's, sold foot long hot dogs, when we were at WDW during Feb. of this year. They sold hot dogs and turkey legs from this small bldg.. Just curious.

Pecos Bill is just about my fave Counter Service eatery at WDW. Greats fixins bar and cheesy chilli fries. Mm-mmmm!

They have pretty good food and it is very reasonable in price. I LOVE the fish and chips there. You get a generous serving and it is very tasty.

Good luck and have fun!
