NEED ADVICE: Missing the 50th Anniversary by a few days

I need help/ an opinion.

Our family has a trip planned for the week before the Oct 1 anniversary date. I tried and tried to convince everyone that going after the date would be the best bet...but I was overruled. Our trip dates are Sept 15-25

I guess they were thinking that it would be similar to the Disneyland 50th - which started in May of 2005...so slightly before the actual anniversary date in July.

Now that the promos are coming out saying that the anniversary will not start until Oct. 1, everyone is reconsidering and trying to see if we can reschedule to later in Oct or early Nov. I'm not even sure what the availability will be.

I literally have no idea what to do. It's complex, because part of our stay I've rented DVC points for our small family unit to stay at the Boardwalk for a few days before. Then our big family vaca is at Old Key West stating in a Grand Villa. So...there's a lot of moving parts.

Right now the announced things don't seem that enticing, but I know there will be more announced. Do you think that we will be able to experience any of the celebration that week before? Or are we going to be stuck in like construction land? For example, are they going to be doing the construction on the castle to update it that late in the game/ close to the actual date. Will I just have a picture of the castle with a crane in the background?

I'm not even sure what I think I'm going to be missing? I assumed some of the new rides would be open before then....but now I'm really not sure. Just looking for everyone's opinions.

Based on how Disney has been operating and their "advertisement" for it; we wouldn't change...especially when thinking about crowds...also it's supposed to last 18 months, so you could just catch it next Sept

Will you be going back within 18 months of your trip?

If it were me, if this trip is the only one I planned to take in the 18 month celebration time, I would highly consider changing my dates.

If we thought we’d be going back during the 18 month celebration time I’d leave my trip as is. As @abnihon said, there’s a high chance your current date trip could be lower crowds both because the dates are in Sep and because many are waiting for the celebrations to begin Oct 1.

We had the same thoughts when we booked out trip. We're mid-September and we were hoping for some of the 50th Magic. I'm not ruling out yet that some of it will be there - I'm just not expecting it to be full blown.

I'm not a crowd person so we avoided October all together expecting Anniversary crowds.

Don't loose hope yet - all reports are also saying that there's more to be announced.

We did the same. If all that's going on is the castle decorations, that will be great. Early soft openings will be a bonus.
Just get me out of my house (and off work--I'm an essential worker like so many others, and we ARE READY FOR VACATION!!!).

You probably won’t see the special lighting or Mickey and Minnie in their new outfits, and any shows they they have by then. However, I would predict that any new attractions that are planned for the anniversary will be open before then.

I think I would leave things alone. I doubt you will miss that much.
If you won't be back over the next 18 months, and seeing special 50th things is really important, then moving your dates makes sense.
Currently, we don't know that much of what they will do for the 50th, but what has been released has been underwhelming. I'm sure more will be released as we get closer.
