HI-- I am desperately seeking advice. We moved into our house about four years ago and the walls in the living room were painted a dark brown color from the Ralph Lauren Paint collection from Home Depot. They are the suede paint with another tan color somehow on top of the darker brown? Anyhow.. my DH and I (yes, even he wants to do some redecorating?!?!) are sick of the dark color and want to repaint the living room...

I called Home Depot and their paint person told me that all I would have to do is paint over the suede paint with a primer and would not have to sand. She said that the RL suede paint is not that thick and it should not be a problem.

I am so leery to believe this-- has anyone had any experience with this???

I emailed RLP and no one responded to my email.

thanks!
jen

I don't know about the texture of suede paint, but I do know that you will have to use primer (Kilz) before you can cover the dark color. I had painted my bedroom the prettiest green color...(it was like a garden color)...anyway, we used Kilz when we decided to go with another theme.

Good Luck!!

No experience, but what harm is there in believing what the paint person told you? Get a can of primer (you are going to need it anyway), paint the wall (behind the couch, or somewhere inconspicuous) and see what happens. If it turns out that you still have to sand, well, you would have to do that anyway whether you primed it or not so no harm done. It sounds like it might save you a lot of work.

use a good primer. with stain blocker, put on two coats. then paint. have painted over hte RL seude several times this way and have had no problems.

Thanks so much for your advice!

Froggyinark-- do you have a primer that you would recommend?

thanks again- jennifer
