Need advice from NY/NJ Disers about GW bridge!!

My oldest DD has a cheerleading competition at Manalapan High School near (or in) Freehold NJ on Sunday Feb. 2. We are staying at a Days Inn in Freehold on Feb. 1.

The competition is at noon time and depending on the amount of teams it could go until 8 pm or so. It is a 5 hour drive home. It is shorter to go the GW bridge but will I hit traffic???? That awful traffic or would it be best just to go the Garden State Parkway???

My girls have school the next day and I want to get home as soon as possible......

Play it by ear, you just never know how the traffic will be.

I'd just scoot up the parkway. There shouldn't be too much traffic.

On Sundays the GWB to NY can be a nightmare epsecially late at night. Tune you radio to Jersey 101.5 and listen for the traffic updates

I'd take the Tappan Zee to the Garden State if I were headed to/from NJ.

Whether you take the Garden State Parkway or the NJ Turnpike, you can take either the GWB or Tappen Zee Bridge. It's not an either-or thing regarding the GWB and the Garden State Parkway.

I travel from MA to NJ to MA to NJ...ALL the time. LOL

We've found the best way to go is straight down 95, over the GWB. I know where Manalapan is, and my sister lives right in Freehold (the next town over). You can go either Garden State Parkway OR NJ Turpike from the GWB to get there. Although like someone mentioned, coming back home on Sunday night there is usually traffic, mainly at the GWB. You should be fine on the Garden State Parkway till you get close to the GWB though.

How old is your daughter? I wonder if my niece will be in the same cheerleading competition? They live in NJ, she's 13 years old, almost 14.

P.S. On the Garden State Parkway you will have to pay a few 35 cent tolls, some people hate having to stop like that every so often.... On the Turnpike you grab a ticket when you first get on, then pay one toll when you get off.

I once got stuck on the GW coming home from a cheerleading competition in NJ and it took me 8 1/2 hrs. to get home!!

I want to avoid that at all cost.......... I will go on mapquest or something like that and get directions. also, I will go to AAA and get information. I can not be stuck like that again, especially with school the next day.

My daughter is 11. She will be competing at the World Cup competiion in Manalapan High School. Her gym is called East Elite from Wilmington MA

What a small world! I called my SIL a little while ago and the competition that you're going to is being sponsored by my niece's gym! I thought that "World Cup" sounded familiar! I know their team colors are black, gold, and white, and they use a leopard print as part of their design. I remember when we were all in Disney World last February, my niece found a Mickey doll wearing something with leopard print on it, at AKL, so she bought it

My SIL and niece will be there at the competition helping to run it. I told them the name of your daughter's gym, so they will be looking for them I should email a pic of my SIL and niece to you, in case you happen to see them there!

On January 25th my niece will be in CT at a competition. My SIL wasn't sure what town, but if its not to far I might try to go there and watch my niece perform.

What a small world SeaSpray.

World Cup teams are unbelievable!! This will be my DD's first competition of the season. Her team is the only one from the gym that will be travelling to NJ (the other 6 teams are staying home!!).

Maybe I'll run into your SIL and niece!!
