Hello all!

I have recently been diagnosed with a hip condition that makes walking and sitting less than enjoyable. For our trip this summer, I am anticipating needing an ECV and prefer ease of leaving the parks to rest. I am concerned because there is a strong chance I will have surgery in the next few months and this is our only chance for this trip and I want to do what I can to not overdo myself, so I am putting serious thought in our resort choices.

Right now, we are a split-stay between POR and YC as a group of 7. While I am not concerned about YC (I think location and room size work for what we need) I am wondering if I should consider a 'better' option for POR? We are military so I could do SoG for location and monorail access... or maybe Contemporary?

I'm hoping to let DD see the Royal Room at POR, so I would love to hear support for keeping it... just nervous about the distance and rooms. Thanks for any advice!!!

My DD has MS we choose POFQ and Contemporary

Well, if you are going to be using an ECV, then distance won't be a factor really. Just make sure that you note on your room reservations that you will be in one, so they can make the proper room allocations. At POR you could request a ground floor room.

I hope that you are planning to rent your ECV from an off property site so that you will have the ECV 24/7 while you are at WDW. It is also much less expensive to do it this way. No problem putting them on any of the Disney buses. They have lifts for them.

With POR, you're going to be relaying on buses. If you can, I'd stay at CR. You can use the walking path to the MK or take the monorail. You can monorail to Epcot. If you split your stay with YC, do Epcot & Studios during your YC stay and MK/AK during your CR stay. (AK is via bus no matter where you stay.) The rooms in the CR wing are cheaper than the tower rooms.

We rent a ECV for our trips for my 81 yr young grandmother. We rent from a outside agent so she can have one for our entire trip. this yr it will cost use $175 for 7days. Just make sure you let them know b4 hand so they are expecting the delivery. you will also have to charge it nightly so you have enough battery life for the parks. I really do not think it will matter where you stay.

another suggestion for you is to request an accessible room with a roll in shower. if you are having surgery on your hip it might be difficult for you to get in and out of the tub. there are also rooms with a tub that have grab bars if that is easier. if you stay at riverside i would also request a room on the first floor. only the mansions have elevators. if they put you in alligator bayou that section does not have elevators making it impossible to get to your room with an ecv. there is a number that you can call that due to medical issues disney has to guarantee these requests (first floor, grab bars ect..). please check out the disabilities section of the dis. i think it would be really helpful for you and has a lot of information.

I really appreciate the input! I have been having hip drama for a few years and was initially planning our trip with a rollator and just mosey on... now I have accepted that is beyond optimistic and I need to accept I will need an ECV and should try to accommodate as much as possible.

I think we will keep POR/YC and I will try to make the requests suggested. We have a Royal Room so I believe they are in the Oak Manor section which will def take away the elevator gamble of AB. We will have our own vehicle and DH has decided we can rent a larger set of wheels for transport - since we'll be a group of 7 we were already trying to figure out logistics for getting around... ESP for those early ADRs!

Thanks for all the great info and helping me feel a bit less stressed.:goodvibes

Please be aware that the RR's are in Oak Manor and Parterre Place. Parterre Place has some of the most remotely located rooms on property. I would definately check out the disabilities board and find the number for CRO related to medical issues. You may end up in a room that is the farthest away from everything.
