Need advice for adding on points

I'm just perusing some resale listings this am and not seeing many March use years. Is it just hit or miss, or is that a more rare one? I think the same use year would definitely be something I'd like. Also, I didn't realize that all of SSR expired in 2054. Not sure we need/want that since our OKW is 2042.

No matter what the UY and contract size you are looking for it is the one you can't find much or any of. ;) If you're looking for OKW that is one resort that actually had points spread out relatively equal across UY's so no, March isn't going to rare but sometimes it is just waiting for the right option to come along. What happens with OKW though is that being the first it's typical for contracts to be in the 150-230 point range and smaller contracts than that are more rare but I'm not certain what size you're looking for.

SSR is very large and I think also a decent distribution across UY's but still might be waiting for the right one to come along.

From all you mention I lean towards the thought that OKW could be the best add on for you. It will be a bit more in the long run that SSR but since GV's or larger villas are in your mind I think that swings towards OKW. And the same UY makes it easiest.

Yes, still one log in, so that is easy. When booking you just have to toggle between the memberships when deciding which one you want to use.
Can you transfer points between memberships if different UY? Or do you have to always book from one or the other?

I definitely notice what you say about the larger contracts at OKW being mostly available. Makes sense. The lower dues at SSR are attractive as it's been so annoying watching my OKW dues skyrocket. But the ability to book an OKW GV at 11 months is also nice. Not sure! I'll have to think about it. All of this info is helpful.

No, you can only book online using one membership at a time. If you want to transfer points, you have to call,

But, the newest updates show transferred points now, so that helps. Just know that any banked or borrowed points in your account that receives the points have to be used first before it will pull transferred points,

And, you can not transfer the banked points either, MS has relaxed the rules and allows owners with multiple UYs to transfer more than the one time per UY rule, so it can be a benefit.

I have only done it once, and most likely, will just continue to book things separately like always, but I do have SSR points in two different UYs so its possible I may do transfers more often now that I won’t lose the one hour advantage.

We purchased 260 points at OKW with a use year of March in 1996 (expires in 2042). Now that we are empty nesters, we have been going 2-3 times a year and are addicted to staying in 1 BR units. I can't believe I'm considering it, but I'm thinking of adding on a 75-100 point contract. We have had great success booking 1 BR's at 7 months pretty much wherever we want as our dates are typically flexible and we are comfortable with split stays. Is there a drawback to purchasing points at the much cheaper Vero Beach, just to have more points at 7 months? My OCD brain says to look for the same use year, but how much of a pain is it to have a different use year? The uncertainty around the pandemic and what WDW will be like moving forward does, of course, concern me, but I'm just investigating at this point. Thanks.
The only drawback are the higher MFs at VB. Otherwise I think ots a smart buy. I have thought about adding on there too

You can transfer between memberships but that counts as your one time point transfer. As others have said you might want to add on at OKW for 11 month booking in GV or HH preference or SSR.

Actually, MS has relaxed this rule and when transferring between memberships that have the same owners, they allow more than one,

Last winter, I transferred twice between myself and then was still able to use my one and only for a transfer to another owner.

So, 3 transfers from my 2020 UY.

True with a caveat that it falls outside of the transfer rules and many owners over the years have reported being denied a second transfer between their own memberships. At the same time over the years I've done multiple (as in during the past decade) so I don't know that it's a recent relaxing of the rule and still might be dependent on the CM or just directive of the day.

Here is what the website states:
"Q.
Can I book Disney Vacation Club accommodations online using transferred Vacation Points and one-time-use Points?
A.
Yes. Beginning September 2020, Members can book Disney Vacation Club accommodations online using previously purchased one-time use Points, as well as Points that were transferred to their Membership.
The following guidelines apply:

  • One-time-use Points may be used for Disney Vacation Club accommodations in the 7-month booking window.
  • One-time-use Points may not be used for Home Resort Priority reservations.
At this time, transferred Points and one-time-use Points WILL NOT display online on your Vacation Points Overview.
However, available transferred Points and one-time-use Points WILL be reflected and usable in the Member Online Booking System and can be used to complete a booking. These bookings can also be modified online as well."

My recent experience has not been of an exact type to really comment if it follows this or not however I think it does probably back it up. I had a "transfer" of points from DVC a week or so into October for a few left over banked 2018 points from a cancelled reservation during closure. This was in my Oct UY and I now have a Dec Riviera contract showing up under that UY that as they state I was able to use online but I am also able to see it online. This was approx a month after they updated this Q & A though so it might be the newest change. My other experience is with a transfer between memberships of the same UY and same resort and those points I can both see and use online too.
