need advice first time with a car

so heading down next weekend and rented a car for the first time ever....need advice for one of my days....i need to get my wife to SSR for a spa morning and then i plan on going to HWS with my kid to do star wars stuff....i was thinking just driving and parking instead of going back to the hotel then bus.....here is my question should i leave my car at HWS for the day bc we will go back to watch the star wars fire works.....so i know the busses at the close can be a bit of a pain since everyone is leaving at once....so what is it like driving out of the park at close....is it like a concert? does it take longer then a bus? thanks for any advice!

You definitely can do that but HWS is just a horrible parking lot and regardless of car or bus, it's kind of a nightmare to leave at night. Either way it won't be "quick" so just keep that in mind.
I always use the bus system on property and I drive to WDW as I am a local. I figure, why should I use my gas to get around but I build the appropriate wait times into my day. Some people hate taking the bus and feel it's a hassle and would rather drive.
If you want to be in control as to when you leave, drive but be prepared to wait to get out.

We have always driven to HS and gotten in the car many times after Fantasmic. Unlike the previous poster, whenever I have driven at Disney I'm always impressed by how well the traffic flows, even at night leaving a park. It's certainly not like a concert or sporting event. Nowhere even close!

When I go, I almost always have a car. When I do have a car available, i am NEVER on a disney bus.

In the past few years, I have been at the world maybe a total of 40 days, and have not been on a bus once.

I would drop the wife off, drive to the studios, do your thing, leave with the car, go back with the car, then leave with the car.

If the parking lot is bad, the bus line will be bad too.

Where are you going in between? I'm reading:

take wife to SSR
go to DHS
not seeing where you're then going
go back for DHS fireworks

i am actually staying at port Orleans this trip doing a cash weekend rather then points....so here is the day.....wife to SSR me and kid to HWS then back to PORS to meet wife and chill for a few hours......bus to epcot and enjoy flower and garden for dinner.....then boat to HWS for star wars fireworks.....then either bus or car back....depending on if i leave the car at HWS......

After 13 years of Disney I've found that driving is always the fastest way to get around.

the boat ride from epcot to HS changes things.

In that case, I would leave the car at HS to get into it at the end of the night. I would rather wait for a bus mid day, then at park close.


OR...

Drive back from HS mid day. Chill. Then drive to Boardwalk, park, and walk to Epcot. Eat. Boat to HS. Walk back to BW.

just another option.
