The search tool is down right now so I apologize if this has been covered before. I did read a few of the other threads but none address my biggest problem with digital Cameras: slow picture taking

Background:
(I am looking in the $300 price range or less and did see the Cannon S2 recommendation in another thread. I too have shaky hands like the large zoom)
I happen to be in the market for a new camera and all I need is a nice point and shoot camera with minimal mega pixels. The biggest picture I have ever printed out is a 4x6 and I have had a digital camera since around 2000. Most pictures stay stored on the computer and then I print them as needed while always intending to get around printing out "the good ones". I currently have a Nikon Coolpix 3200 and have been very happy with it EXCEPT...

The Problem:
It is slow to take a picture. Once the focus is set, I want a camera that can repeatedly snap pictures. It never fails that I miss "the shot" because the camera takes its good old time taking the picture after the button is pressed. When the flash has to recharge, I understand this. Not in bright sunlight.

Maybe this is all user error and I just don't know what I am doing. If so, I welcome that advice also.

In any event, I need a new camera anyway so I would just like to get something that takes speedy pictures.

Thanks.

I bought my wife a Canon 620 (or something like that) and the shutter lag was very long. Like half a second. So we returned it for the S2 which is much faster in that category.

Fast can also refer to how low the aperture will go. An f/4.6 lens will be slower than an f/1.8.

With the current price of Pentax ist*DL of around US$460, there is no excuse for anybody who needs a camera with virtually no shutter lag to not buy a dSLR.
