Need advice about where to stay w/6 month old

We are taking DD for her 1st trip to the World the first week of May - she'll be a little over 6 months old.

We are debating where to stay: DH wants to say at a WL 1 bedroom villa but it turns my stomach to spend $3k on room alone for 7 nights. Yes having more room would be nice & the washer/dryer would be nice because as DH points out then we could pack lighter and do laundry which we don't mind doing (we usually do laundry once during our trip anyway, even before baby). The micro/fridge aren't big issues for us b/c we want to try out the new dining plan & don't plan to eat much in the room anyway, but we would have a place to put bottle water, sodas, etc. The sink would be nice, but its not like it's a hardship to wash bottles in a 'normal' hotel sink.

I was thinking of staying in a 'regular' room (likely at one of the MK resorts) and, here's where I need opinions, trying to make a 'separate' area for her to sleep in the pack & play.

If the P&P would fit in the bathroom, I would put it in there and close the door slightly so it is dark and 'seperate' from us who will be reading/watching tv after she goes to sleep (hope that idea doesn't make me sound like a really nutty mom ). Or, if the P&P wouldn't fit, I was thinking of putting it in the doorway of the bathroom and then opening the bathroom door wide to make a little 'seperate' space.

She has shown herself to be an adaptable baby & a good sleeper, but obviously you never know when you are away from home (especially w/the 3 hour time difference). I might be worrying for nothing...

So splurge on a WL 1 bedroom villa or go for a regular room?

As much as I love the WL villas, I would not spend that kind of money because of a 6 month old. In my personal experience, 6 month olds are very adaptable about where and how they sleep. When we traveled with babies, I had a bassinet thing on the floor between the beds that worked well--a lot smaller than a regular sized pack and play. I've also placed babies in bathrooms and closets at times. Another tip: I'm a big believer in having a white noise machine to drown out weird hotel sounds.

Anyway, one thought that came to mind was POFQ. We stayed there in January and they had a curtain that drew across the entrance to the dressing area/sinks (and the shower/toilet was a seprate door behind the big curtained area. There would be enough room for a pack and play. Plus, those rooms have a small refrigerator and coffee maker.

One nice thing about all the WDW resorts we've stayed at: they do a good job of giving you a couple layers of curtains or shades or shutters to totally block out any light. I'm super sensitive to ambient light at night, and was very, very pleased with how dark the room becomes when you close everything up.

I agree with the pp about not getting a 1-bdrm villa just because of the baby, but being a DVC owner myself, I can relate to how nice that is. Having said that though, you might consider renting (but at this point I don't know how feasible that is). I checked and for the week of May 1-7, 2005, a 1-bdrm @ VWL would be 196 points. Points on the Rent/Trade board usually go for $10/pt, so you would be looking at $1,960 instead of $3k. Just a little food for thought.

We stayed at the Contemporary resort this past Jan. for DD's 1st Bday. She is a very picky sleeper. She did great. The rooms were spacious, we had a fridge at no charge (all deluxe's now do), and we stayed in the north garden wing. It was $200 a night. We put her p&p in the bath room and left the door cracked, this did her fine. It was great to be a less than 10 min. walk to MK and a short monorail ride to EPCOT and other resorts. CR is undergoing a rehab. It was a littly shabby outside the rooms when we were there, but otherwise we were very pleased. It worked out wonderful!
