Need advice about driving

I was lucky to book the 40% bounceback for a deluxe during our March trip for December. The December dates were sparse for the bounceback and the only time my DH could go was the week after Thanksgiving. We are arriving on a Sunday, 11/29 and staying until Sat, 12/05. We could not have picked a worse time to fly- for the four of us it will cost about $1700. So I think we have decided to drive.

We live in East TN and will be coming down Int. 26. According to mapquest it will be an 11-12 hour drive. I think we will leave early Saturday AM and drive as far as we can with stopping several times for the kids. My hope is to get to Jacksonville or even Daytona. Does anyone know good places to stay at these places? Or if we decide to drive all the way to Orlando, do you have any recommendations for where to stay? Or would you recommend just sucking it up and paying the money to fly?

Thanks for the advice!

I think Mapquest is steering you wrong. I live in south central Ky. and I-75 is the way to go for us, and it takes us through a large swath of east Tennessee. It takes us about 12.5 hours to drive to Orlando this way. It should take you no more than 10-11 hours or so from east Tennessee, depending of course on whether you're talking about coming from Bristol, Kingsport, Jellico, wherever. The one thing I like about I-26 is that it is a lot less crowded than I-75, but I think it would be out of the way for anyone within a 90-minute drive of Knoxville.
