need advice about a Christmas week stay

Our family of 4 is going to Disney for 9 days in August of this year. We've never gone at Christmas, but heard it is crazy busy but beautiful and lots of extra things to do.

For our August package, we purchased 10 day non-exp. tickets and plan to use 4-5 park days of it for that trip. So ... we're considering going again at Christmas for 6 or 7 days and doing 2-3 park days, but more "other things" like DTD, pool days at our resort, eating, etc.

I am wondering what the crowds are really like if you're not worried too much about popular rides or getting around on Disney transportation.

Also, I'm wondering about prices at Disney resorts. Are there any deals to be had, how does this work? Has anyone stayed offsite at this time of year and been happy with that choice?

Anyone who goes at Christmas and has an opinion - please share your thoughts. Thanks!

I think we all care to much about what other people are doing. We love that time of year, even the DH. I'm not sugar coating, it is REALLY busy. I say go for it. Family time is important. This is coming from a mother of one who will be going off to college after next year and will still have one in high school. Their spring breaks will not coincide. This summer could be my last summer for all four of us to be together. We are going 2 weeks in July and and 8 days at Christmas. Then, the kids and I will go at spring break (they'll both be in high school, senior and freshman). Then well all go again next summer for two weeks. GO GO GO. Don't let crowds stop you.
