We are a family of 6 and enjoy staying at one of the many nearby pool home/villas. The one we stayed at 14 mo ago was a bit too far away. (Davenport- approx 15-20 min drive from WDW) So we want to stay closer this time.
Before I spend hours on the internet viewing and inquiring about dozens of homes, can anyone recommend a pool home/villa that they have rented, that's within 5-7 mi of WDW and had good rates?

We rented the blue lagoon villa from villadirect.com It was in the Emerald Island subdivision, and taking Sherberth road from 192, we were on Disney property in 5 minutes. House was a 4 bedroom, and very, very clean. I would imagine any house/condo in Emerald Island would be wonderful.

There are lots of nice developments nearby. Windsor Palms is one of the newer ones. Emerald Island is also nice. A little older neighborhood but still nice is Lindfields. Check out vrbo.com and you'll find lots of offerings in these and other areas.

There are areas of Davenport that are very close to the park. I live 12 miles from Epcot so that means MK is even closer. It's a short drive down !-4.

My home is in Davenport and we are about 10 miles from the entrance to World drive less if you use Sherbeth

I didn't mean any insult to Davenport. I guess it just seemed like too long of a drive compared to staying inside WDW. Plus, we left early am and came home late at night, with 4 tired kids. If we were visiting at a more relaxed pace, like the persons who live there, maybe the drive would have felt shorter. In '94 we stayed in the Lindfields community and I remember being on World Drive really fast.
Anyway, I didn't mean anything derogatory about Davenport.

I am sure you didn't mean any insult about Davenport. I was just mentioning that it wasn't that far away. I don't find it much further than when I used to come to WDW quite often from PA.

All I can tell you is DO YOUR HOMEWORK! I have heard of many instances where the home was rented, and it was all but uninhabitable... the toilets backed up, the pool filthy, etc. Davenport has many pool homes for rent. There is also a really nice community in Clermont, about 20 minutes from WDW called Orange Tree. I believe the builders are Greater Homes. Those look to be very nice. But I don't know what the rent is.

Just really study up on it. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is!

I can recommend renting a villa from Jack McClaren.

Used him on last trip and will use him again on next trip.

At $72 a night for a 2 bedroom which has room for 6 people it is very cheap.

Although it is about 15-20 minutes drive from WDW, its located close to the Ramada hotel on Poinciana blvd & U.S Highway 192.

We just returned from 10 days over Christmas from an EXCELLENT townhouse 3.5 miles from the Magic Kingdom. Go to Google and look up VRBO (vacation rentals by owner) on that site it is # 15904. When you see it believe me it is even better than it looks. The whole complex Windsor Palms is lovely but we know for a fact this villa is great.
