Yes, there is enough of a current to carry around the lazy river.
The pool itself is made up of a couple of different areas:
There is a kids area which is shallow and has sand and water where it's like the beach.
There is the lazy river which has a current (good either with or without a floatation device).
There is the one end of the pool which has the slide and "landing area". Just over from there is a whirlpool (not a hot tub - it's the same temp as the pool but has a strong circular current which carries you in the circle - very fun even for adults!).
The main areas of the pool are sand bottomed which feel great on feet especially after a long day of walking.
The lazy river is more like a no-so-lazy circle. The current is strong and the water is very deep in that area - 8 feet deep. It's located in the middle of the entire pool and does not encircle the entire pool.
SAB is my least favorite pool.
The sinking sands are like quicksand. As you walk through that area, you sink in the sand at the bottom of the pool. You have to pull your feet out with each step. Another feature that I hate.
I didn't think the lazy river was all that strong (But I had been in the one at the Monte Carlo hotel in Vegas which was strong, so my opinion may be skewed.) Without a floatation it did not have enough power to propel me through.
We belong to a swim lake in the summer, so the quicksand was no different then the sand at the bottom of the swim lake.
The slide was extremely cool, but the rest was not impressive...
The main pool also has a volleyball net set up in it - we found that it made using the whole pool a bit difficult if people were playing, as the net stretched across the entire pool.
When we were there the sand was not deep enough for your feet to sink into. There's also a shady area down by the bridge near the hot tubs, a little 'island' that you can sit around the edge of, and lots of nooks and crannies to explore.
Theresa, When is your BC trip planned? Is it summertime (like most of your posted trips)? I ask, because SAB is water park like enough that you spend alot of time out of the pool soaking wet and even though the pool is heated, there is part of the time of year that its just too cold to be that wet outside the pool.

We will be there July 1st. We just added 2 days on to the front end of our trip for a little family time before the rest of our group arrive on July 4th and we move to AKL. I have 2 girls 15 & 12 that love "cool pools". They seemed very intrigued by the Bubblin' Bay and Whirlpool thing. I still don't quite get the Whirlpool. I thought I also read that it hasn't been working lately..??? Is that true? Is there enough to do at the pool to spend an afternoon or so?
