I booked a last minute trip over labor day. One of my guests is a spry 80 year old who is sun sensitive. She'll go out in the morning and at night and does not do pools and probably won't do a park unless its an evening EMH. What would be the best location for her in the complex? I haven't stayed there in a while and have only been in Congress Park.

I'd thought about doing a split stay with one of the deluxe hotel resorts but switching hotels seemed too problematic with said 80 year old.

Looking for responses from SSR lovers...

Thanks,

Jennifer

Depends on what she wants and is able to do. I would request Congress Park, the Springs or Grandstand.

My first preference would be Congress Park. It's a 5 minute walk to DTD. The quiet pool is beautiful, as it's right across from DTD. It's one of my favorite spots in all of WDW! Second choice, Grandstand. It's very colorful and has beautiful views. The pool there is nice, too. It's just a little further away from DTD, though. Third choice, the Springs. This section will get you closest to the main pool and buildings. If you stay in the Springs, ask if you can get a room that faces the lake. It's just beautiful and very quiet. However, the Springs does not have a quiet pool. You have to walk to the main pool or one of the other sections if she decides to swim in the evening.

Hope you guys have a safe trip and a wonderful time!!! :thumbsup2

P.S. Switched locations last stay, and not sure I would do it again. I like to nest! LOL! We had to be out by 11:00, and couldn't check in till 4:00 (room wasn't ready). It felt like a total waste of a day just packing up and changing rooms. If we do it again, we'll check out, go to a park, and have Dis transport our stuff for us once the room is ready. Then I can nest.

Thanks!

I know Congress Park is too far from the main buildings in terms of a quick snack or stroll so I think I'll go with the Grandstand. She wouldn't be too likely to walk to DTD but she might check out the main building and possibly the spa on her own.

She told me the funniest story the last time she came along to hang out. We stayed at BWV. When I came in with my niece she told us she'd gone out for a walk and saw the most horrible thing. Kids were just climbing all over a roller coaster ride that wasn't working while this man just stood by and watched. I couldn't figure it out until my niece started laughing. Needless to say she didn't actually walk in the main pool area, just past it in the interior of the building.

we stayed at the springs during april break and loved it. for an older person who isn't going to be in the pool all day, the springs is closest to the main building for food, shopping, activities. also the last bus stop going to the parks so less bus time. staying in congress park is too long of a walk to dtd, i feel but the springs has easiest boat accesss to DTD and the boat ride is an event in itself. we took our greataunt and uncle in their 70s and they loved boating into DTD and just poking around.
re the transfer of hotels - we just did that going from pop century to OKW. it worked out just fine and was not difficult at all. it did take longer for our luggage to get to okw than we anticipated but during that stay our luggage got delivered to our rooms long after we had arrived. we've never had that happen before so it may have been a very busy time for check in/outs
i would guess that going from a dvc to a premier resort will be easier than pop to okw (pop was very busy)
