We just got some good news but of course with good news there always seems to be a bad news. My husband just got excepted into the local justice(police) academy, he's been trying for a year becuase they have lots of applicants and not alot of spots. Also we have 4 counties in our area not to mention all the police depts. using this one academy. Anyways he just found out he will start in July and go through until mid-November. He is not aloud to take time off for vacations(emergencies only). Now the bad news. I will have to cancel our Disney Free Dining trip for Sept:guilty: :guilty: And if we want to do anything as a family at Disney we will have to go before July and after May(when school's out no more missing school this year). So now I am emtionally not sure how to feel. Am I happy for my husbend YES but at the same time very sad at missing out on free dining. As you can see from my signature free dining is the way to go for our big family!! So can somebody throw some Pixie Dust my way? I know this is a good thing about the academy and I will eventully see the lights of Disney again:lmao:

pixiedust: From one "cop family" to another. We struggle with scheduling too. Best of luck to you and your dh.

Its so hard scheduling trips around any law enforcement employees. My husband was a police officer for 9 years, but around that point he had enought senority to pretty much get off when he wanted to. Now he works a federal job and its pretty much back to square one. He tried to get Memorial weekend off, but no deal! Good luck and remember whenever you reach DW it will all be worth the wait!

Congrats to DH! very exciting!

I think we all have scheduling isssues when dealing with work and Disney. We are going soon because after that DH is starting a new job and therefore family vactions may be on hold for a little while until he can get situated.

So you are not alone!

Congratulations!!!! That is very exciting news indeed, but don't be so quick to cancel your trip. Would taking the kiddos without your dh be out of the question? If he is busy studying, he may welcome the quiet. Also, if he is busy, he may feel guilty about the family having to put everything on hold for his sake. (I know you don't feel this way, but that is how my dh would feel and he'd encourage us to go and have fun.)

Good luck to him. What a great new chapter in your lives you're entering!!

Thanks for all the kind thoughts and words. Yes we could go without him but I don't know if I could do it on my own. We share the stress when it comes to the kids(not that they are bad) and we save each others sanity:love:

I hear ya and I only have 2. I dont really want to do it w/o him. A trip like Disney to me is a team effort. Do you have any adult who would like to join you instead and then you could give DH some alone time if he wants or needs it.

If not know that it is not forever, you will be able to swing it someday!

If you can still go that would be great and kids usually step up to the challenge and behave 10x better than normal. He may like the break. And if nothing else in your mind think of how the loss of free dining that dollar amount would look like spread out over a career of 20 years of Police work. You'll find it is a pittance compared to the career potential of the academy.

Congratulations on his acceptance.

Real life, unfortunately, comes first. I am in the middle of making a career change to become a teacher, so good bye off-peak vacations! Makes me a little sad, but the benefits outweigh rack rate and crowds in the long run.

Hopefully you'll find a room discount or something that will work for your family to be able to go another time. :goodvibes

Well, first, congratulations to your husband and family for this great opportunity. I think it might help if you change your perspective a little bit. Disney isn't going anywhere and although its tough to be away at least you know they won't be rolling up the carpet and shutting down in the 6 months of training. What your husband is doing will benefit for your family for years to come and may make it possible for you to take more trips, etc. I think you should wait until he finishes and then take a celebratory trip (that benefits the whole family) as a long 4 day weekend in an off-time like January where you can accomplish as much as if you went a week in summer. Again, congratulations.

How about you just go for a weekend? Or, does he get off Labor Day (to make it a long weekend). I see you are in Florida - how far from Disney? Are you driving? Can you take two cars, so he is there for the weekend, then you stay on for a few days more on your own?

For one cop's wife to another - I wish you (and your DH) the best of luck!

Another wife of an officer! Congrats to him! And unfortunately you will probably run into vacation scheduling issues again. Not to mention my teaching limiting our vacations. But Disney will always be there!
