MY dad and his girlfriend (both in their 50´s) can´t figure out what they want for christmas. They usually say that they don´t want stuff, since the house is full of stuff. Therefore I have usually bought them giftcards, to restaurants, the theatre etc.

This year I´m thinking of making them a "survival kit" for long weekends at the cabin. I´m thinking of buying a wicker basket and putting 2 bottles of red wine, chocolates, crossword puzzles and..... in it. Any ideas?

How about including a CD they'd enjoy? Coffee/tea/cocoa?

I like your basket idea, but we got a lobster gram last year and it was the greatest gift ever!

They ship live lobsters and all the fixings. It made a really fun and delicious evening for us.

ETA - Oh, they might not deliver to Iceland! Maybe a gift certificate to a local take out place?

My sister's going to Iceland in May, any tips?

I think that's a great idea! I know my parents don't need anymore "stuff" either. Something that's consumable is much better. I think you've come up with the perfect idea!

LOL, pretty sure they don´t ship to Iceland. But thanks for the tips.

When´s your sister coming? Will she be staying for long? Do you know where?
I´ll give you some tips as soon as I know more.

Well she's going in later May for 11 days or so. She has no plans yet, but wants to see everything. She's debating between buying a bus pass or doing a guided tour.

Is she going alone? I would have recommende renting a car and driving herself, but that might not be her thing.

A roundtrip would be great, but they usually don´t include the West fjords, which is one of my favorite parts of the country.

Jökulsárlón is a must-see. It is is a lagoon filled with icebergs from the nearby glacier. It is in the south-east of Iceland.

Gullfoss & Geysir are must-sees as well. Gullfoss is a huge waterfall and Geysir is, well, a geysir ;)

Blue Lagoon is great. www.bluelagoon.is

Reykjavik has lots to offer, both museum, dining and shopping wise. PM me with her interests and I´ll tell you more. Sjávarkjallarinn, www.sjavarkjallarinn.is is a fabulous seafood restaurant. Quite expensive but definately worth every penny.

Hotel Nordica is the hotel I would recommend.

Tell me more and I´ll try to help :)

What a great gift idea! How about a fleece blanket and a game of some kind? Other items that might be good are playing cards, munchies like potato chips and a DVD.

Like the blanket idea. The cabin is already full of playing cards etc. and they don´t want to have a tv there ;)
