DS has far outgrown the baby bjorn and we can do the ring sling for a little while but I have some lower back problems and I can never seem to get the weight distribution right. I've heard good things about Ergo. Is that too hot for FL heat? My ring sling is solarveil so it's perfect but I want something that can be centered on my back that doesn't require perfecting the adjustment like the ring sling and possible for DH to use.

The Ergo is awesome, but you have a good point about the heat. I have used it to carry my dd to the beach in the summer, but not for very long periods of time. There is probably a wrap made of solarveil. Go to thebabywearer.com and there are some wonderful ladies on there who can help you. If you could use a wrap, then at least you can do a 2 shoulder carry. I would still say to get the Ergo if you can swing it because it is awesome for walking the mall and other cooler places.

When are you going?

I took my Ergo to Disney in February/March. I carried DD (19 months and 25 lbs at the time) exclusively. I left the stroller in the hotel. The Ergo was very convenient and awesome. I've also worn it throughout the summer here in Ohio.

Where you've got body-to-body contact with your child, it can get kind of toasty, but I don't think the carrier itself is too hot. (I would imagine that the body-to-body contact would be similar with other carriers as well.)

I've never had a carrier with solarveil (it sounds great) but the Ergo is, hands down, the most comfortable carrier I've tried. I still use it sometimes with DD who's now 3-1/2 and 30+ lbs.

Mei Tai's are great!! I plan on bringing my mei tai, my ring sling and a pouch for my 20lb 8 month old son...

i totally agree. we love our mei tais! my husband and i both still use them often for our nearly 12 month old.

I like the ultimate baby carrier:
http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2266783

It is material and once you try to put it on once or twice you can do it anywhere. It can be used in many various positions and is lightweight and carries I think up to 35 lbs. I like that you can adjust the straps and it never hurts my back to carry DD in it (she just turned 6 months and is 17;bs 3oz).

Ergo is terrific. But I've heard the company itself is getting kind of weird, like Robeez did, to the mom-based websites that gave them their success.

I've also heard good things about the, hmm, Beco? Becco? Something like that.

I had a mei tai with twill straps, but a mesh "body". I wore DS at 17 months all around Disneyland with that, both on the front and my back (we were just then getting into back carries), and it was great.

Wanna talk about hot, get a traditional Korean podegi, which means "blanket". Zoiks! Boiling. My Korean MIL gave hers to me, but I was never mentally or physically able to wear it outside, b/c it was very ugly, very big, and very hot. So do NOT get one of those unless you're in Korea and it's winter. :)

Oh, and if you have baby on your back and baby is drinking water (my guy didn't until he was a year, but other poeple do different things), on a hot day it's quite refreshing to hand the water over to the kiddo, and HOPE that he spills it down your back! :rotfl:

I'd get a Beco. If you are worried about the heat, the Beco might be a better choice since it's made of cotton material rather than the canvas type material of the Ergo. Plus, I have also heard some bad things about the company lately which would cause me to NOT buy an Ergo.

I do think a soft structured carrier would be great for you if you want a really good comfy back carrier. There are a bunch out there, but the Ergo, Patapum and Beco are the 3 I'm most familiar with. My personal fav is the Beco (www.becobabycarrier.com). LOVE ours. AWESOME carrier. You can cart a baby around on your back all day and not have discomfort. We carried my ds around in the Beco last year and it was perfect.

If you are going during the summer you could get solarveil mei tai. That would help with the heat. If you are going during a non-summer month, you should be fine. You will find a soft structured carrier to be so darn comfy!!!!! WAY more comfy with an older bayb for long carries than your ring sling. I loved our ring sling, but could not carry my baby for a long time after he got older.

A mei tai would work for you also, but if you want a back carrier, I'd get a ssc.

Everything she said :)
the solarveil is nice, and grippy, but not super supportive which is why i wouldnt tote a kid around in WDW in it. I used a Solarveil wrap, and I had some sag in it, it's got a bit of stretch to it. I would rock that thing at the pool though! i'm gonna put my vote in for the beco.

oh and can i say kudos for babywearing with a bjorn that long, good god woman you deserve a metal! your gonna LUV a beco if you get it.

Keep in mindthat if you are going for anything in Solarveil material that the company that made it exclusively has closed its doors. The material is getting hard to find now for the people who make the slings and pouchs. I just bought a solarveil pouch from http://www.wallababy.com/ to put aside for summer after baby gets here.

First i would check out http://www.thebabywearer.com/ I would also suggest a Mei Tei like a Babyhawk or even a toddlerhawk http://www.babyhawk.com/
There is also a carrier like a Mei Tei, but buckles (doesn't have a big padded waistband like the Beco or Ergo) called a Connecta they have one with Solarweave fabric http://www.connectababycarrier.com/catalog.php?category=2 You can find these for reasonable prices on the FSOT board on TBW.
