Need a good running shoe

I just started walking and running to get into better shape. I'm in need of some new shoes, as my feet are hurting. I don't want to spend a fortune($150^). Anyone able to recommend some good running sneakers?

I strongly suggest going to a running store (we have Fleet Feet and New Balance close by). They will find you a shoe for your foot type. I spent $100 on my last pair.

Agree with the running store suggestion. Most will put you on a treadmill to check your gait and recommend shoes specifically for your foot.

For shoes, I love the Asics Gel Nimbus (I'm more of a walker than a runner, but they are running shoes). They were a little less than $100 with a 20% off coupon from Shoes.com.

I order my shoes online from Shoes.com or Shoebuy - much cheaper than the store. But I did buy my first pair in the running store since they spent so much time fitting me.

New Balance. If you have an actual New Balance store nearby they will fit you for them. DW and I each got a new pair a month or so ago - spent $100 each but they are great shoes, very comfortable, fit properly, and we can tell an improvement in how we walk - less pain in knees, ankels, etc.

I agree with everyone else - get fitted at a running store as every brand has a different fit and different levels of support between models. Once you know what type of support you need then you can try on the appropriate model shoes. I began running a few years ago and used a pair of shoes last summer that I thought were comfortable (purchased without help). I ended up getting severe pain in one foot and thought I may have a stress fracture. I went to a running store and the sales person watched me walk/jog and determined the type of shoe and support I required and I tried on similar support/style shoes in all of the brands they had and picked the one that felt best. Some stores even have a treadmill and the associate can watch your gate as you run. I haven't had any pain since. I think I spent about $75.
