We had a Waldorf Salad at a restaurant that was sweeter than most I have had and my husband really liked it. It was not overpowered with mayonnaise. All the recipes I find online suggest mayo & lemon juice. Wonder if I just add sugar to that if it would work OK? Any other suggestions are appreciated.

Did he like the mayo at all? If so, just add a "smidge" - along with the other ingredients..:goodvibes

That's what I do too. I can't stand anything with a ton of mayo in it.

OP, I cut up my apples(skins on) and treat them with fresh lime juice. It's not as acidic tasting as lemon and imparts a clean, sweet taste. I chop up pecans and mix it all together with a little dab of mayo. If it needs more moisture you can chop up some grapes in there too. I think the nuts are what makes it.

I figure you gotta have the mayo to make the dressing. Wouldn't want just lemon juice.

Instead of mayo I use Miracle Whip. It seems to have a bit of sweetness to it. I also add celery, walnuts or pecans and raisins. Funny thing is, I really do not care for Miracle Whip. I use it only for Waldorf Salad.

Last year for every cup of miracle whip I added 1/4 cup of cool whip.

My family prefers the fresh version that is the sort served at CPK -- no mayo, no cream, no gooey anything like that.

This one has chicken added, but that's optional. It contains baby greens, celery, grapes, crumbled gruyere, candied walnuts and diced apple, tossed with a Dijon balsamic viniagrette.

I made a real good Waldorf salad this evening. Chopped red delicious apples treated with lime juice, chopped celery, chopped walnuts, and mayo. I don't like a lot of mayo on anything, but this needed some moisture. So I opened a can of mandarin oranges and put about half the can in. Not only was it very tasty, it looked beautiful!
