Need a good DHS restaurant!

We've never done much (if any) TS meals at Hollywood Studios. I'd love rec's for a great place to eat there. I haven't decided which meal of the day it'll be, so I'm open to anything!

eta- there will be 10 of us, 7 adults, 2 little children, and a baby.

Brown Derby of course. Terrifc meals, excellent crab cakes ( and we live on the Gulf Coast), very good service. It never disappoints. The Cobb salad may be famous but it is liketeeny tiny pieces, almost like it was put in a blender-texture of the salad creeps me out.

50's prime time is very good but sometimes you can get a dud CM that isn't as fun with the antics. Awesome fired chicken and sandwiches. Best hand dipped Milkshakes at any of the Parks. Get to look through one of the old view finders to pick a dessert. Wonderful Decor--at 42 I can still remember how my Daddy's Grandma's house looked--so cool.

I agree with HBD. Actually it is the ONLY place we ever go to anymore. Not a fan of any other place. If I HAD to, I guess 50's Prime Time, but as Toddy mentioned, we have had a couple duds in the past and choose not to go there anymore.

At HBD we also love the crab cakes, they are wonderful! The pork and the grouper are also an excellent choice. Don't pass on the Banana Napoleon, its a winner!

I also agree with this all the way! Aunt Liz's Golden Fried Chicken with mash potatoes and string beans at 50s Prime Time Cafe is excellent! The milkshakes are super thick and delicious! So thick you have to be careful not to spill them while stirring in the giant metal mixer (I don't know it's proper name) that they give you for it. We always go and we have yet to have a server bring it down for us. In the event that does happen I'll probably just tease/joke with that person until they play back. They'd have to either be pretty rude or having a bad day to diss people who come in happy and excited. No tip or sucky tip for them I guess.

I've never heard a bad word about the Brown Derby. Do you always get a phone call from Goofy while there? To emulate how the old stars would get calls? I would love that.

Even though Sci-fi Dine in Theatre's food is far from amazing I still really like it's theme. I'd like it better if all the severs wore roller skates. I've always liked drive in movie theatre imagery but the tables are pretty dark so the menus are a little difficult to read. Also, the footage they show on the screens, at least when we went, was only about 15 minutes long so it looped constantly and was kind of boring. My mom was so annoyed. That plus the simply decent/alright food makes my mom hate it.

Brown Derby and Prime Time are really all you need! Lemonade from the Dinosaur is good too.

I was going to suggest Sci-Fi until I saw the size of your party. Sci-Fi is great fun, you really feel transported to another place and time and the burgers are fine. That said, with that big a group, I'd do 50's Primetime. Didn't think the food was very good at all, but the whole atmosphere is fun and they can more easily accomodate a crowd. It also seems as though the CMs really play it up with the larger parties.

I've eaten at PTC on every trip since MGM opened, but this year at DHS we will be eating counter service only. The last 3 trips the servers have been busy/rude/boring. Haven't even been allowed a dessert menu. The last one said she'd be back with our drinks in a few minutes(took 20) and we were to be ready with our complete order including dessert when she returned. She meant it.

We were very surprised at the quality of the food at H&V. Of course, it is
a buffet and can't compete with Brown Derby but it is a lot more food for a lot less $. We did the dinner buffet since characters weren't what we were looking for.

We've done H&V, Sci-Fi, and 50's PTC and the only one I would go back to is 50's PTC. We loved all of the yummy comfort food there: fried chicken, meatloaf, pot roast, etc. Even when the servers don't put on a great show, it's still a great meal.

Looking back at the original post... young children... Hollywood and Vine was great in 2010 for breakfast. The characters are a LOT of fun, one of the best character meals - the restaurant cast and characters dance to Playhouse Disney music with the children. DS5 really enjoyed dancing with Agent Oso and Handy Manny.

Breakfast food was very good, although it would take a lot of effort to mess up breakfast food... Did the character lunch in 2009, food was OK but limited variety and nothing special... no better than the budget buffets at home (Golden Corral, Country Buffet, etc.). Dinner does NOT have characters, did that in 2008, food just as plain and ordinary.

I think HS has a real nice mix of restaurants. For us, it's character breakfast at Hollywood and Vine, lunch at Sci Fi and Prime Time, dinner at Brown Derby... of course not all in 1 day.... We went to Hollywood Studios a few times last trip (partial days).

Our 2 favorites there is 50's Prime Time Cafe (I agree that the Fried Chicken is the the thing to try) and Mama Melrose. We tried Sci-fi our last trip and thought it was so-so plus it took us almost 2 hours from the time we sat down to the time we walked out the door, they were super slow in there. We haven't tried HBD, but do plan on to in the future.

I don't like the brown derby, but I love 50's primetime cafe. I actually like sitting at the bar and eatting dinner, you can use your table service there. The bartenders are always friendly and good for a laugh. The fried chicken is always good, they are sometimes a little hard to change the sides, or at least give you a hard time. Try the electric lemonade, it is great.

The food was okay at Sci-Fi, and our kids enjoyed the atmostphere (when the were teens) but never really cared to repeat the visit.

We did enjoy the 50s Cafe. We thought the antics of the waiters would be annoying but actually enjoyed the his role playing. But the real reason we went for was the milkshakes!

I'm not a huge fan of the Brown Derby. It's OK. Not worth the $$$, IMO. The food in Sci-Fi isn't special, but it's not bad -- and I love the atmosphere. Mama Melrose gets savage reviews on the Dis, but I find it to be passable too. Lots of people love 50s Primetime. It's decent enough, but I think it's a bit overrated. In other words, take your pick for a sea of so-so options!

Tough call. Nothing in DHS is memorable. Liked Sci-Fi, but it's not for a bigger group. Mama Melrose was pretty good, as was Brown Derby (which is a bit expensive with a limited menu). Liked the food at 50s PTC, but our waiter was a big zero. The waitress at the next table was twice his age, twice as fast and had ten times more personality. H&V? Dirty, awful food and lousy service. Other than that it was....well, still terrible.

We choose PTC or MM if we have to have dinner in DHS.

We were having the same conversation tonight. We've eaten at both 50's Prime Time and Hollywood and Vine. Both were fine, but I don't want to go back this time.
We're leaving around 1 for a break, eating an early dinner at Raglan Road in downtown Disney and going back to HS for the evening.
