I'm trying to plan a long weekend trip to Chicago this spring and I'm wishing there was a "Dis" for every family vacation. I'm trying to pick a hotel, resturants, museums, and activities for the family:confused: . I 'm really missing the feedback these boards provide!:flower3:

Wow! I was thinking the same exact thing a couple days ago. This board just ROCKS!!
You'll love Chicago--let's hope the weather cooperates though. When are you coming? We just got a ton more snow last night. It's actually even prettier now that the trees are covered again.
What activities were you thinking of? I'd be happy to help you out with what I know, but I'm not IN the city. I live in the burbs but love going to the city.
Millenium park is so neat and it's FREE! MUseum campus is great too, esp the Shedd Aquarium! You'll have a great time!

I wish there was a general vacation board like this too. I have a hard time coming up with vacation ideas within our budget, and it sure would be nice to get others opinions and experiences to help me out!

I too was thinking that! Everyone here is so helpful and there is such great information on all the details that can be so daunting. We were going to go to New York City many years ago and then didn't end up being able to go, but it was overwhelming just thinking about how to get around, where to go, how much it would cost, hotels, restaurants, places to stay away from, etc. etc. The only problem with this site it that it is Addictive!!! :surfweb:

im from chicago too if you want feed back or help looking into things. you can message me or just email me sarahyoung921 at gmail dot com

I agree COMPLETELY!!!! I don't have the money for another Disney vacation any time soon, and the few little trips I have planned have felt so empty with out a Dis!!!!

I agree! DH and I are going on a road trip in 4 weeks, meanwhile we're not going to Disney for 4 months...and which trip do you think I'm spending all of my time planning? I think I'd be more excited for this road trip if I could ask questions of/share info with others.

We used to go to Chicago every summer- loved staying in the 'burbs- actually in Schaumberg near the Woodfield Mall. Then, we would head into the city each day and explore the Field Museum, Shedd Aquarium, Lincoln Park Zoo, Brookfield Zoo and Navy Pier.

The kids love going on that trip!

Top of hancock tower, top of Sears tower, Michigan Ave. shopping, water tower place, the Frank Lloyd Wright neighborhood tours, Greek Town, etc.

Hotels are pretty straight forward, the higher the price the better the location. I have stayed at the Palmer House and the Drake many, many times and would recommend both highly. There is a brand new Hyatt at water tower place that is right in the middle of it all. Any good guide book, or search of chicago museums is gonna kick out all the majors and a few of the minors. There are also tours that go along with famous movies shot in chicago, the Ferris Buller tour, the Blues Brothers tour, etc. large malls in the sub urbs, woodfield was the largest mall in the US until Mall of America was built. There is an Ikea out there as well.

Thanks for the advise. We are going with DD's 5 and 1 so I plan to hit the aquarium and Navy Pier. (And I hear there is a nice Children's museum at Navy Pier:confused3 ). I've been to Chicago several times, but never with my kids so there are things I haven't really noticed before like if we can walk place, or will need a cab, which kinds of resturants will work best, we are thinking about maybe taking Amtrak to avoid parking , is the Mueseum of Science and Industry too advanced for my little ones etc, etc... I've got a little work to do, but I agree with PP who says I'm way more into planning for Disney(which isn't until fall) just because these boards get me psyched up!
