I want to purchase one AP for myself now in order to purchase the DDE cards. I want to buy two DDE cards (DH and myself) bc I will be traveling seperate in August. I wanted to buy the remaining APs for DH and DD6 at DTD just to "break up" the cost.

Do we need both AP #s now to buy the DDE cards? Also do you have to show the AP to pick up the DDE at EPCOT? Or just ID? I don't want to send DH if we didn't purchase his AP yet and find out he needs it.

you just buy yours.

he will just need an ID to pick up the DDE - they use to only do this at Epcot.

so I would be sure to travel with him otherwise he will be paying $10 for parking (unless he is staying at a WDW resort at the time)

Buy your AP voucher, order your DDE card, and ask for the spouse card at the same time. I don't think they'll need your dh's AP # to process this (at least they didn't the last time I got one for my dh, but that was in 2006).

You might want to wait to order your DDE card, so that the expiration date will more closely match your AP exp. date (approx. 1 year). If you wait to the very last minute you can pick up a temp. card at Epcot.

Thank you!

I will order my AP tonight and then order the DDEs as we get closer to the trip.

DH will be picking up the cards at EPCOT by bus since we will be on the grounds at SSR.

You and your husband can each get a DDE card with just one AP - I think the additional charge is $25 for the second card in his name. The DDE card is good for 1 year from order so if you are not going to go until August you can order your AP now and then order the DDE the week you go to WDW. You can arrange to pick it up at the Guest Services window when you get there. The permanent card will be sent to your home. When you order an AP you get a voucher for it and have to activate it when you get to Disney at a guest services window at a park or DTD. The voucher number will be enough to order the DDE. You could then pick up the AP and the voucher at the same time when you get to WDW. I have done this twice and it worked out very well. If you have a trip before August then you may want to order the DDE for your earlier trip. If you are buying the AP with the DVC discount you will need ID and your blue member card to buy them at Disney.

We use only 1 card.

Yes we do need two cards this time. We usually travel together but I am taking DD6 on a surprise girls trip in August. I don't want to use DHs card bc I know it is against the rules (yes somebody does follow the rules) and I do not want the card taken if they decide to enforce the rule. So I am paying the extra $25 for our few days away.

when did they start charging for the second card

Based on what you've said, you are going to WDW without your DH but he is not going without you. So why not just get one card in your name and save $25?

Usually DH is the one that "gets" the food but I am guessing for most TS we are together and that is where we get the discount. Not sure why I thought about that! Does that mean I have to pick up the card at EPCOT or can I still send him?

That's a good question! You could call the DDE office and ask them if there is a way your DH could pick up a DDE card with your name on it. Good luck! I hope it works out so you can save the $25.

It doesn't matter who actually pays the bill, just that the card holder is present at the time of use. I always get the card in my name but my dad usually puts the bill on his credit card.

If you're going to Disney first, then just put it in your name and pick it up at EPCOT. If your husband's going first and will use the card, then use just the first initial and same last name (assuming you and your husband have the same last name).

There's really no reason to pay for two cards. That's probably why they started charging for it. The second card never gets used but is a hassle to print up.

My guess is that a charge was added for a second card because people were abusing it.

We do get a second card. My husband calls it the "hassle factor." In other words, why hassle a year out whether we will be apart for enough meals to get the card's worth.

As for using just an initial, I would hazard a guess that it would not be allowed. Too easy to abuse it that way.

Someone asked when the extra charge was added. I believe it was January 2006. I read about the change on the DIS and renewed a month early to save the $25.

I agree. I remember reading posts where people reported teaming up with a friend, splitting the cost ($60 at the time) so that they each got a DDE card for only $30 a piece.
