Neck fans

Just wondering how good these work. I saw some other people on another thread saying that it is one of the things they get to help them keep cool in the summer at Disney. We have handheld fans and take them every trip. They work okay but mostly blow hot air unless we are in stores or shows. Do the neck fans work better at keeping you cool? We are going back next month after swearing we would never go in the summer again. We were thinking about ordering some from Amazon but wanted to see what people who had used them in Disney thought about them. Thanks!

I have one. I got it for work. It has helped me survive hot flashes in a room that is overheated.
I used it while mowing last month. It wasn't a huge help.

I have a neck fan. I use it for occasional
hot flashes while in the house. I wouldn’t be inclined to take it anywhere though. It’s big and bulky compared to the little handheld fans. It doesn’t put out as much cool
air as I expected, based on its size. It also runs for maybe an hour before needing a charge.

I have this one, from Amazon:
"JISULIFE Portable Neck Fan, Hands Free Bladeless Fan, 4000 mAh Battery Operated Wearable Personal Fan"

I was also skeptical at first, but got it on Prime Day last year quite cheap, & I've been impressed. It is a wee bit heavy in my hand, but the shape is comfortable, and I often forget I'm wearing it because it's very quiet. This one vents all the way around, and hi speed is quite powerful. The battery usually lasts me through 9 or so hours of continuous use in the parks. (USB-C. I charge it overnight and may top it up from my portable battery during an indoor meal.)

It blows the air it has available, so if you are outdoors and the air is hot, the fan breeze will be warmish unless you take steps to add cool air. The solution to that is to also bring a cooling bandanna (the kind with beads), to wet & put under the fan around my neck. I have hypohydrosis, which means I sweat much less than normal, and for me the airflow cooling effect is really necessary in humid climates. The fan draws the moisture up and helps cool me quickly b/c blood vessels in the neck are very close to the surface. (Due to my condition I also carry a handheld misting fan, a reflective umbrella for use in outdoor queues, and I wear pale colors outdoors, including a white wide-brimmed hat, but I seldom have to use all of them at once. However, our trip a month ago was exceptionally hot, & I did have to pull out and use all the gear several times.)

DH found one on Temu... I don't think he has actually used it. I tried it on, I think it would drive me crazy to walk around wearing something like that blowing on me.
My daughter bought one from Temu also & likes it. Enough that she is planning to buy more for out Sept Disney trip. Not sure if I want one but will try it if purchased for me, lol.

Neck fans just blow hot humid air when very warm. Here now and do not carry it around. We had two models. There is more relief from a cooling towel... though it does not last long in the current heat!

Thanks all! Sounds like I need to spend that money on something else. We have used cooling towels and the neck things with beads before. Not crazy about either one. We do have a reflective umbrella and fans. We will make do with those. 😀

I suggest the cooling towel too. We went last August and it was horrible. Did you know that the big tanks that hold ice and spray bottles have a bucket for drainage and you can dunk your cooling towel in it and it’s really nice and cold. A CM told us about that at Animal Kingdom.

I have one, bought it for Disney trips. I think it helped. Didn't feel it was too bulky or a pain to deal with. Just watch the battery/charging time while using it.

I have one and found it annoying to have around my neck and it makes my neck hotter. I prefer my hand held (stroller) fan.

I have seen students on campus wearing them. It's hot and humid here in the south, so it helps in buildings where the AC is struggling to keep up or while walking from building to building/car.

My DH won't go to WDW without one. I prefer the battery-operated handheld fans. DH loves the neck fans (the ones that wrap around your neck) because he can move each of the 2 fan heads in different positions in order to get the maximum amount of air flow. Between that and using a solar umbrella, it makes standing out in the blazing Orlando sun in June a lot more tolerable.

DH won't do Disney in the summer without ours. I think it's a HUGE help myself but am not as passionate as he is :rotfl:

We were at MK last weekend and didn't realize ours had died and DH nearly melted into the ground. He bought one on the Amazon app while in line at Jungle Cruise so we are prepared for our next visit. Sadly, they don't sell them at the parks.

He also wears it mowing the lawn, along with a cooling towel, and says it makes the heat more tolerable.

(we live in FL)

Thanks for this thread. I was wondering about getting a cooling fan or cooling towel too. A couple weeks ago, the humidity here was up to 79% and it was 90+ degrees and I felt like I was swimming though the air with all the humidity. I also couldn't breathe very well the humidity was so thick. :crazy2: I think I will get a cooling towel instead of the fan.

So I ordered one today for our September trip. Because yesterday I read a thread on here that someone would:
Melt Melt Melt Melt if they went in the September heat 😱

And look - tonight a neck fan thread.
