If we are staying at the Animal Kingdom Resort for 6 days is it advisable to rent a car for the entire length of your stay?

It all depends on your plans. Do you want to travel off site to dine? Are you only visiting WDW? What are the prices for a car rental? Will you be eating onsite only? Can you deal with the bus system?

If it were me, I would rent. At that resort, you are at the mercy of the bus system, if you don't have your own car. There's no monorail, boat, etc, so you have to either take a bus, drive or possibly take a taxi. It's one of the more isolated hotels.

It depends on what you are planning on doing. We stayed at AKV in August. Did not have a problem with the bus service, in fact i found it better then the bus service at BLT. But one night after dinner we took a cab from wilderness lodge, it was almost thirty dollars.

Absolutely not necessary for us. We LOVE Disney Transport!!

DH likes to have a car while on site, so we take DME to the resort, and rent a car at the CCC or the Dolphin the following AM. We return the car and take DME to the airport on our last day. There is a one free weekend day coupon on the National website. We are renting a compact for 4 days for a total cost of $115 plus gas. We are staying at a Value the 2nd week of Dec 2009. We find the rental car better for getting around when the Values are full and/or sold out.
