OK, I've modified a tip I learned long ago for film camera users.

Film camera tip:
Create an index card with name, address, phone #. (Large printing).
Keep this index card in your camera bag.
For the first picture on every roll of film, take a picture of this card - close-up.
Also, place address label stickers on each roll of film before leaving home.
Theory: If you lose the camera or a roll of film, HOPEFULLY someone might get it developed and/OR your contact info will be the first photo they see.

Digital camera tip:
Create an index card with name, address, phone #. (Large printing).
Keep this index card in your camera bag.
For the first picture on each memory card, take a picture of this card - close-up.
Now, MY camera (Canon S3 IS) has a neat setting where you can decide what you want to appear on the screen when the camera powers on. One option is a photo of your choice. So, pick the photo with your contact info.
(you'll need to take the photo AND assign it as power on screen each time you erase the card)
So, if someone finds your camera, and turns it on....they'll see your contact info. :thumbsup2
Again, just hope they call you.

OR, just stick an address label on the bottom of the camera. Kind of hard to stick one on a tiny memory card though. LOL

I saw a post a while back where someone's first picture is always taken of their business card, these are great ideas you mentioned.

my last name and cell phone number (same number in the past 13 years) are written with permanent marker on each of my memory cards.

On my last PnS, which had a tethered lens cap, I put one of those stickers with your address (like you put on an envelope for a return address) on the inside of the lens cap.

Gotta come up with something similar for the DSLR... I used all all those free address labels I got in the mail after buying a house and I am too cheap to buy more. :)

Hey, these are all cool ideas! :thumbsup2 I just updated the title for others to add more....if there are any more.

And thanks, I just added a label inside my lens cap too. :goodvibes

yet one more thing i never thought of,,thanks for the info
film canisters i always put snap fish stickers on so someone could just mail them in for free but hadn't thought about the camera or cards ( cause the film costs so much more than the equipment :rolleyes1 )

In a different forum it was asked if your name is engraved onto the camera.
Most replies were no. It afects the resale value. If someone is going to return you requipment they will do it if you name is on the camera permanently or temporarily, like a sticker. But definatley put your name on the camera and the bag. All my cam bags have room for a Disney luggage tag, heheheee

I did that AND slapped a sticker on it, like you said, so I could tell if the CM accidentally swapped it when handing it back to me. The CM's thought it was a good idea.

I have a digital image that is "locked" as the first photo on my memory card along with a photo of myself to prove it's mine. Most lost/founds will want proof something is yours... not oh look it's my digital camera... so an extra bit of back up.

If you have a digital camera you could also create a digital graphic of your information and then load it back into the camera and lock it on the card.
