Now that I'm a new DVC member we are considering a stay at HHI. Does anyone know where the nearest major airport is? I'm from the West coast and cannot figure out which one would be the most economical and within driving distance? Thank you in advance!:)

ATL is 5 hours, Savannah is an hour but you'll have to change somewhere. Charleston about 2 hours. There's a small airport on the island but I'd never fly in there due to schedules & cost.

Southwest starts flying into Charleston in March 2011. I booked my March flights into Charleston for around $250.

We've also flown into Jacksonville, Florida, and drove up to Hilton Head - if I remember correctly it was about a two hour drive.

JAX is a good 2.5 hours. Your better bet is SAV or Charleston-CHS.

You can even fly into HHI directly via US Air, one leg from CA to Charlotte, then straight onto the island. Definitely price out this option as it is the closest and easiest.

SW does fly into Jax as well and fares tend to be very reasonable, so it might be a good option for some.

Charleston is also about a 2 hour drive to HHI. Hilton Head/ Savannah International is only about a 1/2 drive. I know Delta flies there and I believe US Airways does also. With Delta you will most likely have to go through Atlanta.

Re: the small airport in the island, is mostly used for commuter shuttles and private planes.

Continental flies into there also. I'm sure because we flew in there on Continental yesterday. However, as a PP mentioned, I encourage you to check into SW flights to Charleston. For Easter, we're flying into Charleston-airline tickets for both of us to fly cost what it would for one of us into Savannah. $250 vs. $550 each. We love the convenience of Savannah but the only thing that made it possible yesterday was frequent flier miles.

Actually, there is an airport on Hilton Head that is 5 minutes from the resort. The airport code is HHH and United/Usair fly there. Look on kayak. My parents have flown on island from Albany, NY in the past.

Thank you everyone! We are definitely planning to visit HHI in the future. :goodvibes
