nearby beach to Disney World? Advice needed!

Hello,
We are planning to go to Disney in March of 2012. After our Disney fun, we want to rent a car and go to a beach for 2-3 days before flying back home. I know that it is March but maybe this will work out? I'm really looking for advice here. Where to go where we can stay on the beach and not have to drive too, too far as we will have a 1 and 4 yr old with us. I'm looking for a clean and family friendly relaxing beach to round out our vacation.

Welcome to the Boards! That's a lovely idea. How long are you staying at Disney World?

In terms of beaches, you definitely should look into staying at Disney's Vero Beach Resort (go to www.disneybeachresorts.com/vero-beach-resort). It's about two hours away from Disney World and is designed for people with the exact idea as you. It has a beautiful beach, some tennis, an amazing pool with water slide, gourmet restaurants, and really spacious rooms!

If that is too long of a drive for you, consider Loews Don Cesar Hotel (go to www.loewshotels.com/en/Don-CeSar-Hotel). This is a little less than an hour and a half away from Disney World and features a really beautiful beach, gourmet restaurants, two great pools, and a superb location.

The Don is located just a short drive away from St. Petersburg and Tampa, but has quite small rooms and lacks activities for little kids (if you have any). However, Disney's Vero Beach is located pretty much in the middle of nowhere, but has many actives for kids! Have a great trip!

NOTE: We went to the Don in March and we had to come at 8am everyday to the pool if we wanted a lounge chair by the pool. So we spent most of out on the beach.

I did a similar trip just this past June. After 4 days at Disney, we went to Treasure Island (in the Saint Petersburg Beach area). We rented a car at the Dolphin, right outside Epcot then drove just over an hour to our rented condo (Sunset Vistas). we then flew out of Tampa airport.

We loved the area we stayed at, the beaches were beautiful (soft, white, clean sand), the Gulf was great and there were plenty of good restaurants.
