Nausea and cramps

Aleve/Naproxen is the only thing that ever worked for me. Ibuprofen/Motrin didn't work for me. When my gyn gave me a script for 520mg naproxen, it was like a miracle.

I take Anaprox (prescription-strength naproxen/Aleeve). For me, it works better than ibuprofen. So if Motrin doesn't work, it may be worth trying out as well. Also agree with previous poster--make sure she takes it with food.

The ped recommended that my DD10 begin taking ibuprofin around the clock starting about 2 days before she expects her period and then keep taking it until she is finished. So far, it is working well. For the nausea, I'd probably ask for a prescription.

Who has a home remedy? I really don't want to go down road to the BCP but DD's cramps and nausea are horrible. She spends atleast one day a month throwing up and 2-3 others in pain. She takes Midol but it only dulls the pain and doesn't do much for the nausea. Does anyone have any suggestions on what else to try? (She approved this message. She wants relief that bad.)

BCP is the best route. DD's cramps and nausea will disappear, she will be regulated, and the cycle will be lighter and easier. Today's pill is so much better than 20 years ago, it is a lighter version. Not sure how old DD is, if she is still young, have her go to a pediatric Gyn. They monitor them very closely with check ups every 6 months. Oh, and no internal (unless it is absolutely necessary)

There is no reason your DD should go through this once a month.

I had this for YEARS...turned out it was level 5, endiometrious (no idea how to spell) that was untreated for years. TMI question however; you need to question the color of ...well...you know (red or black). If dark, have her get checked.

Otherwise, the thing that worked best for me was Pamprin. I am not sure if they even make this anymore.....but, it was great. Otherwise, I just recall a big blur of pain and hours spent rotating between the bed and the bathroom.

I hope she gets relief soon......sorry for the TMI, just wanted to share as I had such a similar experience.

. Midol is codiene and the Advil is ibuprofen, so you're not going overboard on either.

.

Midol is not codeine. Codeine is a narcotic that you have to have prescription for. I just bought some ultimate strength(or whatever it's called) tonight for DD17 and it's naproxen, an NSAID like ibuprofen. So don't take that particular Midol formulation with Motrin. However, the other formula(can't remember what it's called) is acetaminaphen(tylenol) with caffeine and something else. But it's not codeine.

10:scared1: Holy Moly, that is young. My DD is 8...please....I am hoping for 14 or later.

I saw some Pamprin tonight--aspirin and caffeine. I wouldn't use that with a child though, due to the rare but extremely serious risk of Reye's Syndrome

I will agree with several of the previous posters about Naproxen Sodium (prescription Aleve - I have a 550 dosage). I've had EXCRUTIATING cramps since I started my period at age 10. Passing out, throwing up, missing 2 days of school and work every month. I'm 31 now and am infertile, but still suffer from the cramps.

The only thing that has ever helped was birth control (Ortho Tri Cyclen is the only BC that worked well for me) and taking the Aleve 3 days before I even suspect my period. The Aleve does not work if I wait until I feel cramping. Aleve is an anti-inflammatory, so it has to be taken beforehand and consistently to work well.

I would bring her in and have an eval workup because of the cyst. Speaking from personal experience, a cyst can cause such incredible pain and nausea. I was 15 when I developed one. I couldn't even walk into the ER, my Dad had to carry me in. The ER doc was convinced I had an etopic pregnancy. I told him that was only possible if I was the second recipient of the immaculate conception! And yes, it was brutal every other month until it got resolved. If you can get that issue resolved the other stuff might start to feel a bit more tolerable. They have bcp at a very low hormone level that you can get to help. Otherwise, motrin at a continuous (fairly high) dose has always helped me with the cramps. The tradeoff is a sore stomach towards the end. I also take b-vitamins.
