Nat'l car rental rates!

Hi!
Hope someone can help! Trying to rent a car (we are EI members) from National for week of April 4-10. The rates are so high! Plugged in different contract id codes and finally got a decent rate of $236 for a standard, which was at least $100 difference. Problem is I discovered I put the American Express ID in and we don't have a card. Are they going to ask? We have another credit card we reserved it under. What do you think? Does anyone have any other tricks for that week? Its Easter week and that seems to be the problem....no coupon codes will work. Thanks............

We have a reservation with Dollar for April 8-14. We have a full size reserved for $154, and the standard size was about $10 less. I used the KISS2 code with Dollar and joined their preferred club.
I have been looking at National for months, but they are too high. We have used the AMEX code in past years, but have always been told to use the AMEX card to rent the car. They could ask for it so you should be prepared! We got out AMEX card thru Costco -- that way it didn't cost anything.

I too have been trying for a decent rate for our June trip,but OUCH!!!! I can understand a slight increase but we are talking nearly if not double the price from last June.

Go to Dollar and go to the specials at the top of the page... when it comes up put Kiss2 in the promo code and see what comes up.

I can't belive what things are going for this summer...

Maybe it's just me, but last week we were in WDW and returned last night. Before I left I checked my rates for my April/May trip and for 13 day the price was around $500 and I checked yesterday and my rates are now $350 for 13 days. I booked right away. My dates are April 29 to May 11. So maybe the reason the OP is getting stinky rates is because they are traveling Easter week. I'm happy to see my rate drop. I used the vacation outlet code and the $25 coupon.

$350 for 13 days is good. We have $356 for 11 days during June 27-July 7 for a minivan through Thrifty . None of the codes are working for me. Maybe because of July 4th week . I look weekly to see if I can get something cheaper. Thought about taking ME and having DH bring us the rental once at the hotel. But now I can barely get midsize to come close to the $356. Most of the minivans I see now are $450 or more for my dates. At least I am under $400 right now....

Easter is exactly the problem. The coupon capacity has been filled, as have many corporate codes. You really need to book EARLY if you are going to go President's Week or Easter Week.

Why don't you get one of those American Express travelers check cards. It's like a debit card/traveler check thing all rolled into one. All you have to do is show that, but tell them that you would like to put the car rental on another card (MC, Visa, etc.)

Book the cheapest thing you can find now and wait until National releases their Last Minute Specials (usually 2 weeks before your trip) as these are their best deals...
