do you notify nationwide you are going abroad, if so how?! i just got completely lost in their phone system!

We just use the number on the back of the card and inform them when we are in America. We have had no problems using the card abroad but some people here have said after 9 purchases in a day the card is refused till the next day.

We also took an Abbey Zero card with us this year which offers the same benefits as the Nationwide one.

I have never rung them and never had a problem, I know someone that rang them and they were told there was no point in ringing, the computers are set to look for fraud and they can't change anything. If you are going to use it a lot might be worth telling them, if not don't bother.

It does not hurt to ring them, we always do and have used the card numerous times whilst in Florida without any problems whatsoever. We always take a back up card with us just incase but have not needed to use it.

I wouldn't normally but they seem to be quite hot on picking up 'suspicious' activity on our credit card - I tried to use it to pre-order my photopass and they rang to check that it was us. I've also had calls when DH has used it abroad - though, as he is the main cardholder they can't tell me what the call is about! :)

For ALL banks it is well worth while contacting them 7 days in advance to tell them where you are going and how long your trip is, they have systems to record your start and end dates.

You card can get stopped by your BANK or by the payment system operators themselves IE VISA or MASTERCARD, this occurs when your spending habits change, and going aboard and getting a lot of authorizations aboard is often a big change.

We have always erred on the side of caution by informing Nationwide :thumbsup2

I always phone all my CC companies before I go abroad. Even though I only use Nationwide abroad I usually take a couple more for emergency back-up. Nationwide now has it set up on their phone system about notifying them re taking their card abroad, I think it was #5.
