National's Emerald Aisle

Perhaps you're being asked to go to the counter because this is the first time you've rented from them using the Emerald Club? (I dunno...it's been a while since my first rental with them.)

As for the size difference between the midsize SUV and a fullsize car...I can attest to that. For some reason, it costs more to rent the SUV. We reserved a fullsize (Emerald Reserve) in Orlando in 2005. When we got there, none of the fullsize cars were to our liking (they were ... Malibus...that's not full size to us!!) so we took a SUV from Emerald Aisle. Since we were paying more than an intermediate, we were allowed to do this.

This past December, we rented in Las Vegas. The fullsize aisle was jammed with Impalas. I had my family stand at one of them while I went to EA to take a look....nothing special there so we took the Impala. When we had the Pontiac Torrent in Orlando, we barely fit 2 big suitcases, 1 small suitcase and our assorted carry-ons in the back. In fact, one of the carry-ons had to be in the backseat. The Impala trunk was ENORMOUS. It fit 3 big suitcases and ALL of our carryon. The back was pretty spacious...although...for a somewhat nice car...it lacked cup holders in the back. :confused3

So...while it was fun to drive the SUV (and tower over other cars), the Impala was bigger. Note about the Impala if you do choose it...my parents who are in pretty good shape but in their mid 70's had a hard time getting out of the back seat. They were very low and they just struggled getting up from them.

I will be going into Tampa next Friday and using National. I will update you on the process...

Thanks! That would be great!
Have a wonderful vacation!:car:

I will update this on the other "EA" thread, but here it goes...

Jan 12 11AM

10 Chevrolet Malibu
8 Pontiac G6
4 Chrysler Sebring (New 07's)
2 Saturn Aura
1 Chevrolet Monte Carlo
1 Hyundai Sonata

We ended up taking a new 2007 Saturn Aura with 5000 mi. It was loaded with leather, sunroof, OnStar, 18 inch wheels and side impact airbags. VERY nice ride for a $45 weekend rental...

Jan 15 11AM (Return)

WOW!! Lots of great upgrades available...

10 Chrysler PT Crusers (NOT convertables)
8 Toyota Highlanders (As far as I could tell they were all BRAND new)
6 Chevrolet HHR
5 Toyota Corollas
3 Dodge Grand Caravans
3 Hyundai Sonatas
2 Chevrolet Monte Carlos

I emailed them and they emailed me back that I have to go to the counter because my coupon is an upgrade coupon. I really don't see why but I will go to the counter!
