Nationalize Oil Companies

In some of the most important oil producing countries of the world their oil operations are owned and run by the government. They realize just how important oil is and it can not be left to a profit making organization. I hope that this discussion of nationalizing the oil companies will start soon in this country. A few years ago, when oil companies had to advertise to sell their products it benefited our economy, but compared to what we have today. the sky is the limit what they can sell their products for at any price without competition and this will surely hurt the economy of our country. Then, the politicans will have no choice but to act in the national interest.
President Bush said this week that he is "concerned" about high oil prices. Mr. President with all due respect, that answer needs to be followed up by action from your administration. When the Congress returns next week, the leaders of both parties and the President need to sit down and work together to see what can be done in the near and long terms on this problem. When we work together for a common goal, the American people can solve any problem. If the right signals are sent from the government, the oil company execs might notice and change their ways for the collective good of the American people.

Stop the whining :rolleyes2
All European citizens and economies can cope with gas prices between $5 and $6.50 per gallon and are getting along fine. Adjust your consumption to the price and everything will be fine.
Nationalizing the oil companies sounds like a very socialist -or unamerican- concept to me, Comrade Jeffn5631 ;)

Sorry, but I've seen what our government does and almost everything they touch becomes a sorry mess. The last thing we need is another federal bureaucracy running gasoline production. As much as I hate the rising gas prices, it would become a nightmare if left in the hands of Washington, DC.

Because...as we all know....everything is so much cheaper when the government runs it. Flood insurance....that's reasonably priced, right? Anyone here ever have to buy into the state-run homeowner's insurance program? Good rates....much better than the private companies.

Maybe if up to $1.00 per gallon wasn't taxes, prices wouldn't be considered so outrageous. They could lower the taxes. They don't. They're no help. They have a solution - even if it's temporary - they just choose not to do it.

So, no....turning it over to the government is not an option I'm willing to fight for.
