National Public Radio ... "Driveway Moments"

Inspired by the "What other podcasts do you listen to?" thread (And given the fact that many of us are fans of NPR), I thought I'd ask if any of you have had any notable "Driveway Moments" ... Moments when you don't get out of your car because you're too engrossed in a particular NPR program.

So far, it has happened to me twice. Once, I had just pulled into my driveway but I didn't get out of the car ... I was listening to "Selected Shorts" and Cynthia Nixon ("Sex and the City") was reading a story with the best southern accent. The second time I was in the parking lot of my local Stop & Shop but I was too caught up with "This American Life" ... It was their Halloween show.

What are your NPR "Driveway Moments"?

It happens more often when I am listening to audiobooks, rather than podcasts, but...

If I am in the midst of a segment on Wait, Wait- I will "wait" in the car to finish that section of the podcast!

And once in a while, I will stay to hear the rest of a Stuff You Should Know story. I love those guys and they can hold my attention on any topic!

But overall, I am pretty good at shutting down and pick up again, mid-sentence even, then next time I am in the car.

There was a great episode of "This American Life" a few months ago, where I couldn't get out of the car. You can find the podcast, it is called "Toxie" and it's an amazing in-depth look at the toxic assets and housing market from a number of different perspectives.

Mine isn't an NPR or a podcast or a driveway but rather a Barnes and Noble, CD, parking lot moment.

I bought the CD "Songs for a New World", a revue by the B'way composer Jason Robert Brown. I popped it into my car's stereo and sat and listened to the first song three times before I could leave the parking lot.

It was that good.

I only listen to music/podcasts using my iPhone, which travels with me at all times.
