I have only every gone straight to the lot for National but I noticed this time my rental says to go to the Counter. Has anyone else had that notation on their National MCO rental (maybe since COVID started? could it be a quirk of low staffing or something?) I'm thinking about going straight to the garage anyway, I have a minivan reserved so I'd have to talk to a person there no matter what... (I've seen horror stories about the waits at the MCO counter for Budget and this is one of the reasons I chose National. I did confirm my license is up to date.)

Did you book direct with National or through a third party? Can you see the reservation when you log in at National's website? If direct and you can see it, I would go to the garage and figure it out from there. I rented through Hertz last month and the email told me to go to the counter, when I got to the counter they told me to go to the garage as my vehicle was already assigned.

Direct, shows on the website.

Yeah I’m think I’m gonna go straight to the garage- after all worst thing they can do is tell me to turn around and go back inside but I might get rewarded with yep, here’s your car and be on my merry way!

Can’t answer your question @gottalovepluto as the two times we’ve rented since reopening have been Alamo and Avis, but both times it looked to me like ALL of the rental car companies had crazy long lines at the normal counters. I’ve never been so happy to be bypassing all of that mess. So yeah, I’d take my chances heading out to the garage.

Good luck!

If it’s not too late to modify your reservation and Emerald Aisle is an option, that is the way to go with National.
I’ve recently-ish used them (Aug and Oct) in MCO and DFW, and have walked straight to my car both times. Keys in, email or app pulled up, easy breezy as always.
