Hi,
I was just reading on another thread that you get the second driver free if you join their club at National. I have a couple of questions.

First, does that other driver have to be there at pick up? We are planning to rent a car to drive to WDW in Feb and since it is near DHs work, which he takes light rail to get to, it would be great if he could just pick it up on his way home from work. At this point we have been assuming that I have to be there though in order to be listed as a driver on the car.

Second, do you then HAVE to pick a car from the Emerald Aisle or could we use this club but book a minivan?

And is it free or is there a cost?

THANKS!

Hi,

As to your questions on Emerald Club.........if you're renting anything other than an intermediate you will use Emerald Reserve rather than Emerald Aisle and can rent any category vehicle. Also, I don't have my Emerald Club info right in front of me, but, I seem to remember any family member residing at the same address, with a clean driving record, and a major credit card can drive the vehicle without prior authorization or extra fees. So, it would appear you don't need to be there at time of rental as long as the vehicle is rented using an Emerald Club card. You might want to double check on this since I don't have the printed info in front of me. As far as it being free, go to mousesavers.com and go into the rental car section. National is currently offering free membership in Emerald Club and I don't remember if you need a code or not. If you do, I'm sure it's posted in mousesavers.

We've never had to provide any documentation from the second driver or even show a presence (even though we've both always been there). It's never even been mentioned. We just rented a minivan through Emerald Reserve, I heard you just go out to the minivan aisle and go out like you normally would.

We just started using National after being a longtime Hertz user. The rates were so much better. Emerald is now FREE (for time being) so make sure you don't get billed the $50. With the "emerald isle" you reserve a midsize and walk down and pick whatever car you wan't. Sometimes there are large cars there but not guarenteed. We're doing a reserve isle large car in December and Minivan in March so the "reserve isle" will have the car with our name on it, much like the Hertz Gold. Check mousesavers for coupon codes or BJ, Costco etc.

I think the extra driver issue has been explained pretty well.

Thanks so much for all of the replies! That helps a lot.
