We enjoyed the $4 movies yesterday for national cinema day

I heard there were some issues around the country where there were large groups of youths causing problems around those movie theaters. There was a stabbing at a local mall. I was actually thinking of going there but decided to stay home.

It's weird because I know several people from outside of the US refer to a specific "national day" as the primary holiday in their country of origin that specifically celebrates some aspect of their country whether it's independence from another country or some other deal. It sounds awkward to me because "national day" is not a common phrase in the United States. I suppose in the United States it would be the Independence Day holiday and in Canada it would be Canada Day. I looked it up and there doesn't appear to be any equivalent in the UK.

Today is the Pastafarian holiday of "Blobfish Day." I love that every day is a holiday for the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster.

I have seen a few websites that list what each day of the year celebrates. Most days have multiple items and have no idea what group is the official clearinghouse to make that determination.
