I just rechecked prices at National for our June 1 - 11 trip and my car rental price went down $44, now 11 days at $260.88 mid-size including ALL those taxes. Someone on this board said to keep checking back as the dates got closer and it really helped!! Just thought someone else might benefit....:hyper:

I have an 11 day rental for April 28-May8, intermediate, Emerald Aisle and my total is $228. (includes all fees/taxes). I used the priceless vacation code and the one day free National coupon. My rate went down 4 times in the past 7 days, so now I check daily.

What Am I Doing Wrong?

I am trying to reserve a car through National, to pick up in Tampa at the airport, drive around that area for 5 days and then drive to Orlando, returning it at the Dolphin. I would have the car from August 21-29. The best price I received was using my DH AARP status -- $353 for the week plus one day for an intermediate car. That seems very high to me. I also tried my coupons from my Entertainment book but that made the price even higher. I can't go smaller on the car due to luggage and DH long legs.

Advice please!!

Ciera123 ~ Just wanted to say thanks. I put my dates in again and came up with a quote that is $50 less than my original reservation. For some reason, on my first reservation, they were charging me per day and now it popped up with a weekly rate. I also booked Emerald as my husband is a member through numerous work trips.

Thangs again,
Tammi

ciera123.....what exact codes/IDs did you put in??
Just curious, because we are arriving June 4th, for 10 days same as you.
Thanks for the heads up though....
I clicked on the "internet' specials...code WWEB, then used my Entertainment contract code and coupon code.
Saved $20 from my other reservation.
For the 10 days......Full size car..... $302 includes taxes.

n2mm I am an Emerald member, but the rates I get using that always come out higher than the others....
What "priceless" vacation code did you use? and where did you get the National coupon??
Can you please share the exact codes you used?

Thanks everyone for sharing this info!!!:D

DizneeCM the free one day coupon is from national....they were running a promotion in the fall and you got it if you rented twice from them.

There is a BJs $20 coupon, that is almost just as good. I think the link for it is still on the transportation board.

Cindyfan, the code for priceless is at home and will find it when I get home later this evening.

I apologize for not getting back sooner, but my internet server went down this morning. I went to mousesaver.com, transportation, then to rental car discounts for National. It is the Carlson travel discount (I think the first code for National. I'd post the exact code, but I'm fairly new here and don't know if it's OK) Anyway, I used that and then an Entertainment coupon, $20 off weekly rate. Hope this helps!!

Priceless vacation code is #6600330
I signed up for this on their site (free) priceless vacation. I've never used this before so will be trying this first time--so can't tell you how this will work out. I have used most of the other contract codes and coupons.

I'm presently using one free national day coupon: 10008905 (you had to rent twice from them last fall to get this one).

For others:

Vacation Code (on mousesavers)
contract code: 5042947 (10%)
Coupon: 10008198 ($15) expires 5/31/04

BJs
contract code: 5129799 (10%)
coupon: 10009013 ($20) expires the end of August

I am an Emerald Aisle member, so often use the their contract code: 5190257 (11% off)

My current reservation for $228 for 11 days, intermediate car on emerald aisle I used:

the priceless vacation contract code and my free day.

You can go to mousesavers.com for many other codes and coupons. Please note you need the coupon when you pick up your car--they will ask.

Also the entertainment book has contract codes and a $20 coupon that don't expire until the end of the year. whew!

Just booked my reservations fro aug 25-30. I used the carson code from Mousesavers and the $20 coupon in the Entertainment book. Cost was $94.95 for an intermediate car ($127.32 after taxes, fees).

Only problem was the website coul dnot proceess the request for Emerald Isle with it, kept returning an erroe, I will call them and see if it can be done).

Thanks for the tips everyone....

Airfare...done
PHP+...done
Car...done
Hotel....next!

You are picking up at one locale and dropping off at another, rates are always very high for this type of deal. Tampa rates are probably not quite as competitive as Orlando rates either. If you are flying out of Tampa, return the car at the same place as you picked it up, I bet your rate goes down.

Used the Priceless Vacation code and an Entertainment $20 off coupon for June 4 - 14th. The rate started out at over $297 and is now down to $216.26, all taxes and extras included.

BTW, if you use the Priceless Vacation code, you DON'T pay the Consession Recovery fee........that's a 9.8% savings right off the top

Can anyone use the code for Priceless travel? I just booked with it and saved $50 over the Carlson code.

Thanks Xanman! I was afraid of that. We are flying out of Orlando and want the car for a few days in Orlando to do SeaWorld and such. I am going to try waiting closer to my trip and see if the rates drop, as others are reporting.

OMG! Thank you for the heads up about the Priceless Vacations code. I used it to modify my existing ressie and it saved me $30!!!!

I thought that I had my rate down as low as it could possibly go (minivan-Emerald Reserve, $199/wk with 4 extra days @33.99 ea, EA discount, Entertainment $20 off coupon).

The only difference is that the Priceless code dropped the concession fee ($28.20) and that brought the state tax down by $2 as well. I also see the on my confirmation page that the added tax & surcharges are "subject to change". I'm wondering if it might be a glitch in the system that they'll correct later. I cannot imagine that they would not collect the concession fee.

I think they will charge for the con. fee when you pick up the car. So if I were you I would count the 9.8% in the price. I played around with the codes and mine does have the 9.8% con. fee with the priceless vacation discount.
