I was wondering do you really get to pick your car in the emerald aisle, like do you walk around until you find a car that you like. Also to use the emerald aisle, you have to reserve at least an intermediate, correct?

Emerald Aisle is for Intermediate rentals only. You can only pick a car from that aisle. Usually its only full of Intermediates but on rare occasions it might have an upgrade.
I have used standard Emerald Aisle several times, but this year I have booked Emerald Aisle "Reserve". For our 12-day reservation, it only cost about $10 total to reserve a full size instead of the guaranteed intermediate. Can someone confirm how this will work? I am thinking that if there is not something I want on the EA, I can just take any car from the Full size lane.

I think you are confusing Emerald Aisle with Emerald Reserve. Emerald Aisle is ONLY if you book an Intermediate and that is all you are guaranteed but rarely you could get an upgrade.
Emerald Reserve is for ALL other sizes and you can ONLY go to the aisle of the size you reserved so in your case you can go to the Full size aisle and pick a car from that aisle only.

Thanks for the clarification; I think we might change back to Emerald Aisle now. I guess we are just lucky, but for the last three of four years I have been able to get at least a full size in Emerald Aisle. We will be arriving very late night on a Sunday night in January, and I think our luck might hold to be able to get something nice in the aisle. I just booked Reserve for a full size because I thought if there was not something better than an Intermediate in the aisle, I would then be able to go over to the full size row. I know I would be guaranteed a full size with my current reservation, but I won't have a shot at anything else. I know it is a gamble, but I think I will roll the dice.
